soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I am still trying to find a Speaker for diabetes care. I have wrtten the following to Robert Winston.
He's a big presence and people listen to him.

I belong to a "rebel" group of diabetics, who are trying to elevate the publicity on theposition we find ourselves in as a route to improving the medical care that so many of us are offered. We believe that we are being treated as "undeserving" of better treatment. The press regards diabetes as self induced condition, caused by the supposed lifestyle that we lead. The PCTs are refusing us home blood testing equipment. This despite the fact that NICE says it's specifically told them not to. the rationale is that the cost is too great. They believe that T2 patients particularly, don't get any benefit in the long term from home testing. the evidence for this is a very flawed study done with newly diagnosed patients inIreland, who were testing, but not informed on what to do with test results. However we know that T1s and T2s on insulin have also been rationed. The specialists also still advise a ridiculous diet, (high in carbohydrate), which we have discovered for ourselves doesn't work. and is illogical .
We've tried writing to NICE and get the same answer each time, Word for Word.
I did manage to find that a diabetic with complications costs the NHS about 9 times what a complication free person does. Yet the advice and treatment that so many get is the direct route to those very complications. I am happy with my GP, who is sympathetic to my point of view on diet and treatment, but I read horror stories every day. People who cannot get help.
The evidence on diet is being ignored. I have been married to my T1 husband for 37 years and watched him develop every complication. largely, I think, because he was being advised to use large doses of insulin and "eat up to" them. I have now persuaded him to cut his carb intake and at the diabetic clinic, visit, they commented on the improvement in the blood tests and told him not to follow "The FADDY DIET" Even self help is being scuppered by lack of understanding by "Specialists". The work of Richard Bernstein in the USA is "rubbished" This is not good and the only way we get our voices out there is by using the internet. I would invite you to look at our main forum. (Diabetes UK forum) Duk still advises the high carb diet, so we're enjoying that they are hosting us.
If you haven't already done so, I would ask you to read Gary Taubes's "The Diet Deception"
In these days of government's worry about the obesity epidemic, It shows why the advice given on Healthy Diet isn't working.
I realise that you are very busy and working with patients suffering horrendous trials, but we are many and we need a BIG voice to add to our armoury.
