Trying to conceive

@slayer lol we could be the same person!

Nervous about starting Dafne next week!have to stay in a hotel for the week coz it's so far away from home

Lol! I have done dafne before and it is nothing to worry about! It was so much fun and helped with carb counting and reading packaging! I try to drink veg and protein packed smoothies and eat nuts to stop carb cravings. Lol

I know everyone in the world is probably asleep right now, but I have an important question that is preventing me from entering the land of nod! I take 5mg of folic acid and am considering purchasing pregnacare vitamin tablets, but they also contain folic acid. Will I be safe to take them? I had an appointment with a nutritionalist and she said I am deficient in vitamin B and D.

I used to take pregnacare vitamins with the 5mg folic acid. B vitamins are not fat soluble which means that excess to the bodies requirements just gets flushed out (yup pun intended!) by the kidneys. Which reminds me I need to get bake to taking the pregnacare.

Oh and I seem to be in insomnia mode atm so I keep very strange hours.

Thanks, Sharon! A lot of the customers who have reviewed pregnacare claim to have fallen pregnant. Lol. Tescos have an offer on atm x

You're welcome.

Ooh I might check that offer out.

Not so sure about the pregnancy claims though, I took them for ages and nowt happened for me :(

I had some tests done today and turns out I am lactose and gluten intolerant, then I read an article about how a lot of people who cut out gluten fall pregnant as it can make you infertile. I know some people might be thinking and pigs can fly but Im going to try it along with the Pregnacare.

It's certainly worth trying. However please don't expect it to be a miracle cure. It can take months and years for the body to repair the damage from gluten and lactose intolerance (if at all).

@slayer - I asked my midwife about taking pregnacare and the 5mg of folic acid and she said it's absolutely fine. The pregnacare contains very little folic acid compared to the pill we need to take and there is no harm taking more :-)
I probably end up taking 10mg of folic acid on some days plus my pregnacare as sometimes I can't remember if I've taken my pill or not :-/

Hey girls how are ye all getting on?
My update is I started DAFNE today and found out my HBA1C is 7.6% I'm so delighted I am determined to get it to 7% by the summer ☺

Hey, I went to my pre pregnancy appointment today and they said they are going to put me on a continuous glucose monitor for a week. First Ive heard of one. Has anyone else heard of it or been on it? My doc said pregnacare is fine so happy days. I dont think it contains omega 3 so will need to check that x

Was never on one but we were talking about it st DAFNE today.appearantly you still have to check your glucose yourself 3 times a day when on the cgm! Not sure how true it is!!

When we have the cgm on they turn the screen off so it's only for their use, not ours!! How silly!!

My update is I saw the diabetic nurse today all was good and I have normal clinic appointment next week, after that I am being moved to the pre-conception clinic.

Being off the pill and waiting to see if anything has happened is torture! Not used to having these things happen to my body after having the coil for so long! I'm just not used to it! Still have no idea what normal is! Just have to keep fingers crossed!!!

It will settle @Sarahkylie88 hang in there pet! My diabetic nurse and endocrinologist came into me while I was in DAFNE today. They are so good they just wanted to see how I was even though I'm back at the preconception clinic on Thursday,!I really can't say enough good things about the team there!

Will u have to keep getting regular hba1c tests @Sarahkylie88?

My team are excellent too! I last one has one start of Feb when I started on the pump, but after my normal clinic appointment I will be having monthly hba1cs and appointments with my dsn and two monthly appointments with the team. I honestly think my dsn is as excited and eager for me to be pregnant again as I am!!

Sounds like u are doing a fab job with your sugars @wannabemammy X X X

Isn't it lovely when they get excited like that! My lady was delighted today when I told her my hba1c it was stuck at 8% for ages!! How are you finding the pump? I asked for it but they think I should wait until after I fall pregnant and give birth (if it happens!) would love to go on it though!

It's lovely isn't it!
I actually really like the pump, I have the omnipod, so it's not attached to me all the time via wires, it's done remotely and that's a big thing for me! They said they would have preferred me to be on it as I suffered terribly from dawn phenomena during my last pregnancy, so hopefully this can be counteracted on the pump. I was so against going on it for years, but I do like it. I find I do have some highs etc on it, which I couldn't ordinarily have, but I find it evens out with how good the other days can be! Which insulin are you on? X X

I'm trying to imagine how it would remotely work! I'm not too familiar with pumps!

I'm on 12 levimir in the morning and today it was increased to 19 at night, and I take novarapid too. My sugars came in high this morning at 15 and the same yesterday morning so they increased the night time levimir by 3 and put me on a 1.5:1 ratio for breakfast and 1:1 ratio for lunch and dinner.im only starting off with the carb counting and not finding it hard but I'm slow at it!

Have my pre pregnancy appointment tomorrow now will let you know how it goes!

It takes a while to get used to carb counting! But it's ok once u know how! Have u got the carbs and cals app/book? That's fab and helps a lot! I use it all the time!

This is my pod, which u fill with insulin and the control which has a blood test machine on it!

How did today go? X X
