doesn't seem as easy as it sounds......ha ha, joking aside, how do you out there manage to lose weight ?...obviously a good diet is a given but every time i try and exercise, i seem to end up getting a low. I cycle 50 miles a week back and forth from work and do a physical job, but i am now the heaviest i have ever been in my life.... nearly 14 stone. Yes i know it's not going to break the scales but i need to keep iy in check so any help would be gratefully appreciated

Cycling 50miles a week is great but weight loss is controlled primarily by diet. You need to either adapt your diet or try to reduce the amount of calories. Very easy to write but not as easy to achieve lol ! Good luck !

I'm afraid the only method that works for me is to eat less calories than I use.

I was there for several weeks and I put it down to portion control of hospital food which was delicious and never wanted more. However now I'm at home I don't seem to have the same control and as I live alone I find it difficult to cook small portions for one. Got to eat less seems so simple but hard to carry out.

My technique might not be as 'safe', but I starve myself to get my body used to the temptation of not eating anything rather than stuffing myself, plus I have financial difficulties which makes it rather a forced starvation than intentional. I've never been above 9 stone so I don't know how hard it is to lose weight, a bit like smoking or drugs I don't know how hard it is to stop.

Plus the reason I am underweight is because I have no breakfast and rarely have lunch/dinner, put together with stress of everyday life, anxiety and other problems that I have. However I think sugary food like cakes, chocolate, biscuits, and condiments should be taken out altogether, the more you put off temptation, the more used to it you get (in my experience).

Hi. What do you mean by diet? You need to reduce your carb intake if you want to both lose weight and control blood sugar. Don't think calories think carbs as not all calories are equal. Set yourself a daily limit of, say, 150gm and see how you go.

not sure if you're a T1 or not. If you are, pay seriosu attention to getting yoru insulin dosage right, otherwise you'll be feeding the insulin with carbs. In particular work oout dose reduction for exercise. If you want to burn fat you need to get circulating insulin right down.

Otherwise, long steady sessions tend to burn more calories overall than short sharp sessions, allow better recovery and you can do more overall. also allows you to switch from carb burning to fat burning.

Needs a combination of both diet an activity.

thanks for all the info and stuff folks, I'm type 1 and have been for 18 years.
i think i may have to investigate some excercises that focus on yout stomach, as that is the issue,,,bit of a pot belly..not that you'd notice, but I do.
and yes, cutting down carbs is the way forward , just not sure about how to dfo it. I am just doing a carb counting thing at the hosp, so that should help...
BUT still any more advice would be greatly appreciated
