hi all i have type 2 i posted a while back. bit confused . i take metformin. i have a bad shoulder for ages and started taking turmeric capsules which have stopped the pain . really helped. i had covid not sure if ive got long covid. anyway my BS is all over the place. 1 minute its 4-7, then goes up to 14 . ive had summer cold chesty for few weeks checked covid clear. ive lost quite bit weight walked 20-30 miles a week. today ive had 2 shredded wheat 4 break fast checked bs 3 hours after 14. small tub of humus for lunch with cuecumber down to 7.6. had salmon for dinner with salad and small califlower rice. i pear. ive asked the dr about spikes. googled load all mixed answers . some say turmeric causes spikes some say it ok. hardly eat any bread or rice very low carb. most of time. anyone had similar. many thanks

I've never seen anything that shows turmeric spikes blood glucose - in fact quite the opposite. There's some alleged evidence that it can help with blood sugar regulation. Try having something other than carbs for breakfast and see if you still get that spike? I know it's got fibre, but it's also pretty high in carbs. The other thing that could be hitting you right now is your cold. Fighting off an infection can raise glucose.

It’s not surprising that shredded wheat would raise your bg as it’s all carb, and some people find pulses like chickpeas spike it a bit too. Personally, I’d fill up more on protein, veg and fat and let the fruit and wheat go. I’m also so sorry you had Covid, that could potentially still be affecting you, as could your cold.

I get an otherwise unexplained 25% rise in BG the day before I get a sniffle, it's a really dependable sign. On your figures - two shredded wheat would do that to my BG as well, it's a lot of carbs. Don't believe the advertising, it's not T2 "healthy". I eat turmeric via cooking, never taken capsules and haven't noticed any effect from turmeric in the diet. I suspect there are no miracle cures.

hi thanks for reply had 2 poached eggs bacon 1 tom avacado for breakfast bs10.8 all over the place. coffee no sugar .

That’s lower than the wheat, though, if you mean it was after food. Your body might need a little time to adjust, especially if you’re not feeling well.
