Hey guys, I've been a type 1.5 diabetic for a while now, my last HbA1c was 125 and I've been put on 4 injections a day, I was told on here that I can carb count, I asked the nurse but to be honest she wasn't that helpful, I've been referred to a dietician next month, I was just wondering what the limit per gram carbs were per portion, say crisps and snacks and so on, any help would be greatly appreciated

I think that will be something you have to decide for yourself. I eat what I want and match my insulin to the portion.

A few people on here mentioned about me matching my insulin to the carbs, I can't wait to see the dietitian next month and get some advice.

In theory, you can eat what you want and inject insulin to cover it according to your own carb/insulin ratio. This might work for you, it might not.

In practice I found my own blood sugar levels easier to control on around 120 to 150 grams per day split roughly equally between meals. As stated above, you have to work out what's right for YOU, don't expect too much from the dietician.

I was taught carb counting at diagnosis - for which I'm very grateful. It makes things a lot easier.

I eat approx 180g of carbs a day. I have different ratios (ratio of insulin to grams of carbs) for breakfast, lunch and evening meal).

There's no carb limit. You need to find what works for you. The aim is to keep your blood sugar in range by taking the right amount of insulin for what you're about to eat. But most Type 1s (and 1.5s) find that there is a max level of carbs per meal that they can eat before it gets too hard to control their blood sugar.

I recommend the book Think Like A Pancreas. It's very helpful.

You recommended that the other day Azure thank you, I totally forgot lol, my memory is getting worse and thank you so much for your help, it's very, very helpful this place !!

If the clinic is moving you over to a basal bolus regime, they should spend some time explaining it and help you figure out your insulin to carb ratios. They might refer you to a course on carb counting.

There is a free online course available - http://www.bertieonline.org.uk
