When people who know nothing about the LCHF diet tell me I'm killing myself being on it. I was killing myself not being on it!
Can type 1 diabetics follow the LCHF diet? I'm T2, but was wondering can T1's follow it too?

Type 1s can and do eat a variety of diets :) So yes, they could eat LCHF but they would then need to bolus for protein and watch out for physiological insulin resistance.

So, as a Type 1, yes I could, but I choose not to as I find moderate carbs is easier for control and weight maintenance :)

Do you have a particular reason for, asking?

I have a friend south who is T1 since she was very young, now in her early 40's and is going to Weight Watchers as she needs to lose weight. I wondered if I could recommend the LCHF diet to her. I don't know if she has heard about it or not.

Cutting carbs would probably help her weight loss. I'm very slim and when I want to put on weight I eat more carbs, so to lose weight I'd eat less :)

I also use MyFitnessPal to count carbs and calories, etc, and I find that helps as it's easy to,estimate wrongly.

Bear in mind that she'll need to be confident in adjusting her insulins if she changes her diet, but I'm sure she probably knows that if she's been Type 1 that long :)

Hi,

I keep my CC down too! Why not get your friend to sign up here & check out the LCHF for herself. With your help of course! ;)

I am on a paleo diet which is LCHF without dairy. Blood sugar is mich improved although I do bolus for every meal despite the low carbs. I have a standard bolus for every meal (e.g 2 units) and then add additional insulin for natural carbs such as sweet potato, butternut, honey etc in that particular meal. I am doing well! And enjoying it!

Thanks for your replies everyone. I have told her what a great helpful bunch you are and she said she will take a look on here :)
