What is the deciding factor to determine what type you are? I presume people go to the doctor with similar symptoms and then they are sent for a blood test and they go from there?
I had to do a urine sample which had lots of glucose, I was then sent for a blood test and told to come back in a week where I was put on metformin and told I was diabetic but they don't know what type. I came back a week later and still had glucose in urine and sent for another blood test. I was sent to hospital and taught how to do insulin and check my blood etc and this is where I was told I was type 1. My readings that day were in the high twenties. Was the number the deciding factor?
I have a very healthy bmi and I an very active.
After 4 weeks of using insulin I have good numbers, nothing above 9 and I am reducing my insulin daily on my pump.
Do you think I could come off insulin and try the metformin again?? Would it be worth asking?? Has anyone else done this?? I am aware of this being the honeymoon period, but what if I was misdiagnosed as type 1 and could manage it with pills like type 2???
