Type 1: Crumpets made my blood sugar shoot up?

Lol, I don't recommend them, v run of the mill crumpets, no contest and slightly higher in carbs.
How are you doing with injecting your Insulin before food and the dosage ?

The son of a friend of mine is T1 (diagnosed at 11) and the whole family were shocked at the way his care was downgraded as soon as he reached 16. They had been used to the support offered at diagnosis and for the next 5 years, then it suddenly evaporated and it felt like they had been left out in the rain.

So you are not the only one who feels like this!

When you go to your next appointment, try taking in a written list of questions, so you don't get flustered or forget any. And if necessary, write the answers down. I know that I can easily forget some of what is said, if I don't make notes.

That shouldn't affect things. I would bolus 2 units for a normal crumpet.

BUT that does not matter! We're all different and we all take varying amounts of insulin

The issue is more than likely that you didn't bolus (inject) at the right time

Do phone your DSN and ask for some support. Often we need to push our teams a bit. Ask about the carb counting, and also ask about anything else that you're unsure about. That's what your team are there for

Keep asking questions Chloe, it's how we have all benefited from the forum. Without the questions raised by everyone, I'd still be in the dark. Oh, and I think your bosses also need their share of your time.

Hope you are feeling better now and not so stressed out

Having read through all of these comments, I've learnt something new myself! I've been diabetic for nearly ten years and have always been told to inject my insulin no more than 10 minutes before or after eating - I now see that this is maybe why I've had high sugars on occasions!! So I will definitely be taking on board all of this advice.

I too didn't no what bolus/basal was until more recently, and still get confused between which ones which. My diabetes team has never mentioned those words, I'd only heard them when a colleague (who is also type 1) was talking to me - I was very baffled at the time haha!

Ohhhh dammit haha. Next time I'm going to just inject before crumpets - hot crumpets with melted butter on just taste so nice in the winter!
I'm doing better now thank you, injection before eating and seems to be ok atm. I'm keeping an eye on things
 

This does make me feel better haha! There's so much I still don't know because I don't get told, and I don't know any diabetics either. Ah that's what this forum is for I guess haha! Lots of help on here x

2 units?
I wish I could only take that much. Everything affects my blood sugars. Can't eat anything without having to have lots of insulin haha. Gonna talk to the people at the hospital about it when I next go!
 
Crumpets with melted butter....your making me hungry! No respect for those of us that might be basal testing tonight lol.

If you get that book mentioned earlier in this post it will explain it all, in the meantime enjoy your crumpets whilst i savour the beautiful smell from the 2 Date and banana loaves my wife has made for our daughter's, I'm drinking water without tea in it!

We're all different Don't worry about others' doses. All you need to do is get yours right

Basal -> then bolus ratios (including times to bolus)

2 crumpets (ummm) would make my BGL rise unless I dosed for them. I think I'd probable need about 6 units of insulin if eaten at breakfast, more if I covered them in butter and honey (triple ummm).
 
I can't eat crumpets as they spike me so much! 1 with 20g carbs will put me to the high teens whereas 20g of white bread wouldn't. I also can't eat cornflakes but seem to be OK with other cereals with the same carb amount. Mysterious
