I have a Type 1 Diabetic staying with us and as I am a Type 2 I cannot take sugar, but as he is on a pump system he feels it is OK to eat 6 potatoes at Dinner and have deserts. He says the pump compensates for his no Insulin generating pancreas. I need advice urgently as he will be with us for 3 months and want to make sure he is doing it ok

No reason why the student can't eat anything if he wants to. Nothing is off limit.
Type 1's can eat anything providing we bolus correctly and our basals are correct.

I was wondering can he eat what he likes as I have to be careful on diet. He checks his levels about 5 times per day. I was wondering if all is ok

If he has good diabetes control then there shouldn't be a problem, but I for one wouldn't want to eat desserts on a regular basis (but that's his choice).

Thanks. Just was a bit curious as Type 1 is different to me and wanted to make sure he was doing his control properly. He is German and does his readings in Mg which is different to our system.

Maybe once you get to know each other better you can discuss bg levels and diabetes management in general, anyway hope his studies goes well over here and you all get along fine.

Aaaaah, how caring of you to check though!!
