Hi I myself don't have diabetes but have been trying to do some research for my mum but can't find any answers anywhere.
She had two low blood sugar readings today and we can't figure out why, she sometimes experiences a low reading but never two in one day. Her lowest was 3.1. Has anyone else had two or more low readings in one day or does anyone know what would be the cause of this?

Insulin and metformin (not sure of the spelling)
Hi,

The type of insulin used & your mum's regime would help with the query..

For example. Does your mum take a long acting insulin before bed, & inject an act rapid for meals?

My mum uses humalog and metformin with meals and levemir morning and night. She also has multiple sclerosis and is on a lot of tablets for that. Ms restricts activity.

Does your mum count carbs and adjust her Humalog according to what she's about to eat?

Hi there @Ailieeeee
from the info provided so far it sounds as though your mum is on set doses of the insulins ( background- levemir and fast acting - Humalog for food )and should be eating a set amount of food ( carbs) each meal.

the 2 lows in 1 day could be as simple as not quite eating all her food on her plate at a meal.

it would be wise for you to contact your mother's DSN ( diabetic nurse ) to discuss what has happened.

are your mother's blood sugars normally fairly stable ??

Yes blood sugar is usually not bad mostly in single figures with a couple of highs. I will get her to contact nurses for advice
Thank you

Yes she does count carb and takes her humalog and adjusting accordingly and is normally ok. She's only been diagnosed since February so still kinda new to us. Thanks

I experience this and am 16 and have been diagnosed 3 months. It could be because of not enough food eaten due to the amount if insulin, or the ratio may not be correct is fairly often. If i was you i would contact her DSN. I am experiencing regular lows, often twice a day so am going to ring tomorrow to change my ratios for carb counting.

Hi,

Is there any particular time these hypos (when they happen.) occur?

Hi jaylee
The hypos have only really started happening as mum was high for a long time. Yesterday was about 3pm which was not bad with no symptoms but last night was about 8 and she nearly passed out and she felt ill all night and has triggered her ms symptoms today and has been in bed all day
Thanks

You are probably in honeymoon where the pancreas starts to recover insulin function for a while. But definitely speak to your DSN as you may need to reduce insulin for a while.
