Type 1: I can't get my levels down :(

How far in advance did you bolus for your breakfast? If you're normally in range afterwards, it may just be one of those annoying things.

It does take a while to do a complete basal test so don't worry if you can't do it exactly as you planned.
 
Only 5-10 mins. I'm down to 12.4 now so do u think it's ok to do the fasting lunch? Like will it still accurate?

Personally I'd leave it until another day where you start at a better number.

Regarding your breakfast, bolusing earlier will probably help stop that spike. I go on about advance bolusing all the time because it can have amazing results. Breakfast is the meal I have to bolus furthest in advance for as I'm most insulin resistant then. You could try moving your bolus forward gradually if the spikes are an ongoing problem.

For today, I'd personally correct that high if necessary and abandon the basal testing of that segment today. I used to do mine over a wekk or more, so don't worry about it taking time. Life and annoying blood sugars can easily get in the way.
 
Ok I'll try doing it earlier next time. Maybe I'll see how I am in about half hour and do it another day. Thanks for your help
 
If ypu go high again... you could still do the basal test but treat it as a way to check your correction
Ratio is right..

Ie if you are 12 give your correction and see what happens for the next 5 hours. If you are at target levels at 4-5 hours you correction ratios are ok. If they dont come down to normal by then- you need to alter to give a slight increase. If you drop and swing into a hypo or low levels then your bolys ratio is giving too much insulin.

It is an ideal time to test like this, as you have already psyched yourself up to do a basal test and that time can still be used...
 

Good bg levels, do you think the drop from 7.4 (before bed) to 5.7 (at midnight) was due to having some bolus insulin on board?

From midnight to 9am you couldn't wish for anything better bg wise, they say if your basal insulin is set at the right dose your bg levels shouldn't fluctuate by more than 1.7mmol/l, hopefully you'll experience more good nights like that
 
I'm not sure, maybe? I'm going to go it again tonight and see. I did eat tea that night early mind I had tea at 5pm so not sure if it would have left my system by 12?

I was going to do the fasting at lunch today but I'm not sure where I've gone wrong. I went to bed 6.2 and woke up 5.1 ( not sure if that's because I had wine last night and alcohol brings you down) then for breakfast i took my 9 background of lantus and I had 3 eggs scrambled and some natural yogurt and raspberries I took 1 Unit as still not sure if eggs make me rise and for the yogurt and raspberries so even if it was half a unit for eggs and half a unit for berries and yogurt that was 10.30 then 12pm was 6.4, 1.30 5.6, 2.30 5.2 then 2.45 I was 4.8 so thought I can't start the fasting lunch so just had to eat. Not sure if that's the quick acting bringing me down or the lantus.
 
Not sure why you think you've gone wrong, those bg levels are very good.

If you were doing a basal check at lunch then I would be eating breakfast a lot earlier than 10.30am, you have to wait 4 hours to allow for your previous bolus dose to finish working.
 
I mean because I'm coming down and down not sure if it's the background or the Novorapid. I know, I woke up late so thought I would start testing hourly at 3.30 then have tea about 7ish.

You'll know either way when you do basal check over this time period
 
True. I'm sure by 2.45 the Novorapid would've left my system.
 
My advise was always 5 hours between last bolus and starting test and ideally 5 hours for then testing...

I agree with drops but I think you are seeing that your bolus's are lasting more than 4 hours...
 
That book looks good.

Sorry I don't understand, do you mean u think it's the bolus or the Basel. It's all so confusing, every day is so different isn't it

I think your bolus is acting longer than you think... your basal testing is looking pretty good.. its just the initial drop that concerns me.

What times do you take your basal insulin?
 
Before bed it's 10pm and in the morning usually about 6.50am but because of being off work and waking up later it's been later than that.
Think I'll do another fasting test through the night tonight as no work tomorrow so I won't feel like a zombie
 
Thnx.. jyst wondering then if this is a crossover time of both insulins working at the same time. Just cross over time. I need to look at insulin acting times more with the info you have provided..
 
Like with my tea now because I've only had lunch 3 hours ago I've taken less insulin because I'm still coming down from lunch. Usually when I'm in work I'll have Breccie about 7 lunch at 12 then tea about 6ish
