My wife has had problems due to masive fluctuations in sugar levels. So we decided this morning to go back to basics and recored everything on paper.
What happened! we followed the rules and just now took a reading it was 27! at 9.30pm
We are now at our wits end! The keytone reading is 0.1 so that's ok.
We just dont know what we are doing wrong.
Half inclined to guess in future. Nothing seems to work.

Any chance she is still honeymooning? (As in her pancreas is producing insulin intermittently?) Are you able to ask your team for help?

Is that with a glucometer (plus clean hands)or with a cgm. I wouldn't trust a cgm reading at that level and I'd probably do two readings with a glucometer just to rule out machine or human error.

Just tried the fingerprick test now 27.7

Alos minjected 5 units of insulin to see what happens.

Not sure what to say, other than to keep monitoring those ketones (which I'm sure you are doing anyway).

Usual suspects for readings like that include
1) gone off insulin. I change the insulin vial as a first step.
2) iffy injection sites. Injecting into an oversued site can delay insulin absorption.
3) illness, maybe your wife is coming down with something?
4) new medications that may be raising bgs (eg steroids are renowned for this)

I'm sure there are more possibilities, lots of virtual hugs.

Just to add to Ellie's post, another possibility would be miscalculating the amount of carbs eaten. I'm not saying you did, but it's always something to revisit with elevated blood levels.

Since the last post my wife has had another spine surgery about 4 weeks ago
She is now doing very well and her time in range varies from 60% to about 65% so we are very happy with that
She has had the odd hypo and worryingly the libre2 alarm did not work at about 3am, she awoke and discovered a reading of 2.7 so she did the normal to get the sugars up.
So instead of the alarm working her body woke her up, we will get on to the lab and find out what is wrong, before you ask it was fully charged

If using Android, has she got the latest version of the libre app installed? The previous version had an issue with alarms not going off (because of lost connections I believe). The latest Android version is 2.8.4

Hi! How are things going now? When I get levels that high I take a correction dose of novorapid to bring it down. Are you in contact with any Diabetic specialist nurses who can help? Does she have any other medical conditions? (Sorry for all the questions, I hope she's ok)

Levels not so bad now.
The problem is that the levels are defining when we can go to bed
It is now 11pm and the reading is 10.1, so my wife has just had a snack so that the level goes up,then she is happy to go to bed
This is nothing new.

New to this forum. I don’t know how to convert 10.1 to numbers with which I am familiar. In my system, 10.1 would be extremely low

Divide your number by 18 ... or multiple the "usual numbers" by 18.
