Type of diabetes

Was diagnosed with type2 a few years back after being very ill and in hospital last weekend if being told I'm type 1 is this a common thing
 
@Craig.muldoon It's more common than you might think. There are a number of peolple here who,were told they were Type 2 but then later were found to be Type 1.

Type 1 can come on more slowly in adults, and some doctors assume diabetes in an adult is Type 2 when, in fact, a recent study showed that Type 1 can occur right across the age range.

How are your blood sugars now? Has your treatment been changed?

Yes - count carbs and adjust your insulin as appropriate. If you haven't been taught how to do this, push hard for help from a dietician.

You may also find the book Think Like A Pancreas useful. It's very popular with Type 1s.

What problems exactly are you having with your diet @Craig.muldoon ?
