hi my names jade... i got dignosed earlier this year.. i wonder if any of u could help me the hospital told me i have type 1 told me to watch my carbs and lower food intake they gave me insulin to take humalog and humin i... i havent really been takin it as my blood is always 5.3 or 6.1 the highest its been is 8.8 im scared to take the humlin i at night in case it drops so bad i have a hypo me and my little boy hes 3 live on our own and i just dont no what to do should i go to my doctor x

It sounds like you've been thrown in at the deep end, I can understand your feeling a bit nervous, your hospital should of appointed you a diabetic nurse, so can you call them up tomorrow and ask to speak your nurse, tell them your fears, they should be able to get someone to call you back. When you get diagnosed your pancreas can start working a bit again after you start in your insulin regime, this means you levels can fall back into range between 4-8 without much insulin, it is a temporary phase but it does mean you should closely monitor your levels to ensure you don't go low. That's why speaking to your nurse is so important as they should be monitoring you carefully. Make sure you have quick acting glucose around you at all times, so orange juice, lucozade, jelly babies are good to get your levels up quickly. Learning as much as you are able to is going to help you cope better so have a look around the site and post here if you need support, there's always someone about
 
thank you for the reply yes ill call my doctor in the morning first thing they havent told me any thing only that i got type 1 or they think i have ive never been told what one really they said to take the insulin and the metaformin but some one told me thats dangerous.. also i got a cold can that be harmfull? to me x
 

Hi there! Welcome to a great forum. I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with T1. At this stage I believe you need intensive support and advice. The good news is that those blood sugars are in a reasonably healthy range, so you don't have run away high sugars right now. As mentioned, that is likely a temporary thing and you'll need the insulin you've been prescribed. I think arranging an appointment to talk about everything with your doc or diabetes nurse is the next step to take. They should properly advise you on what to expect and what you should be doing. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask them to clarify anything you're confused about. Taking notes can be helpful so you can refer back to things at home.

hi @DiabeticDadUK.. i will call my doctor first thing tomorrow and they have been like that since i had my misscary on the 23rd of april never rise from 8.8 i just worry about taking the insulin as its just me and my 3 year old at home i dont want to scare him.. like today my blood was 5.7 i ate a kebab i no i shouldnt but the only went to 6.1 im confused as hell x

Oh boy! I wish I could eat a kebab and go from 5.7 to 6.1

I totally understand your worry while you're alone with the little one. See what the doc says tomorrow and hopefully you can get clarification of how much insulin to take, frequency, etc. Clearly you're going to need medication to control your diabetes. BUT talk to your doc about that and seek reassurance and clarification. Do let us know how you get on.

Morning Jade Hopefully if you've called your team you should hear back soon, at the moment your levels aren't particularly high so that's good news, however it will change in time, so being prepared mentally to adjust and know when and how much to inject to get your levels down will help, we can't help with dosage advice here on the forum as it's your team who will need to go through your ratios with you. We can certainly help with filling the blanks knowledge wise to help you become an 'expert' though, let us know how you get on
 
Keep trying Jade, sounds like a nightmare getting hold of anyone - once you do get a contact there make sure you get their email address if you can so you can keep in touch with them regularly. It helps to write stuff down so keep a note book handy with your food intake and readings as it will help them understand more about what's happening with your blood glucose levels.
