Type of diabetes
Type 1
we should make a bingo of the stupid things people say to t1ds and see who fills it out quickest

Type 2's get stupid comments too.

Yes, indeed they do. Why not start a thread for Type 2s? I think there was one a while ago actually so you could always search for that if you prefer.

This thread has been started by a Type 1 asking other Type 1s. That doesn't mean the OP doesn't care about other types of diabetes or underestimate the ignorance about them, but in this case this thread specifies Type 1s.

Thankfully not had too many, but ''you don't look like a diabetic'' has to be one and ''do you still take insulin' has to be another......

My favourite is when you do an injection and somebody without diabetes says "Ooh, I couldn't do that!"

I always answer "Well then you'd die...."

It's such a stupid comment. What do they expect me to,say? "I really love doing injections so it's fine for me"??

One that grates me still is when I'm told about the diabetic distant relative or friend of a friend who manages diabetes perfectly and finds it easy & never any problems etc .

When I ask for more details of their methods of control , blood sugar results , how long they've been diagnosed etc they tend to go quiet.

I was once told about a friend of a friend of a friend, who can go binge drinking all night if he 'injects all his insulin before he goes out'.

@Wurst That reminds me of another one - "You do injections? Why don't you just take the tablets like my uncle/gran/friend?"

Oh well, silly me ! Why didn't I think of that?

except you certainly won't die if you fail to inject insulin with a meal..:D

But I guess it's kinda funny to tell them you will..kinda! :bored:

Ah, but they mean they could never do injections at all if they were diagnosed with Type 1. : D

I find they usually shut up when I tell them they'd have a choice - inject or die.

'Because that would be too simple, I just LOVE to inject, decade after decade, after decade, after decade, why would I want to take a tablet, give me strength

Unfortunatly the Barber I saw last still insisted he wouldnt after I explained those were the choices :banghead: He then asked itf thats why I wear glasses....No, I'm shortsighted as well.
