Type 1'stars R Us

One of the downsides of being diagnosed type 1 later in life, is I will have to live much longer to get the medals.
Won't stop me trying!

Given the treatment available 50 years ago, it is one hell of an achievement - I wonder whether they will have to forge more medals in the future.
I believe in the USA they have medals every 5 years!?
Meanwhile over here it is 50, 60, 70 and 80. I want them to forge a new one for 90... Could be called the Paul Hopkins medal :). I guess they may not have to produce many of those :(

I would love to see it. I admire people so much who get to 50 years with type 1, as we all know the pitfalls, the up's and down's and the, yes moment's, when we can give ourselves a pat on the back.

Believe me it will be on EVERY type 1 thread. Admins will block me from posting lol :p:p:hilarious::hilarious:

The other thing to note today is my blood test results the doc ordered on monday - she was concerned about some of the symptoms I mentioned about my current painful condition so did a raft of blood tests - all have come back normal, well those that are posted on my online patient access but I don't think there's any missing - so good news.

@Robinredbreast I was 27 and was just thinking the same, pushing 77 might not be that achievable..........:sour:

Not that I am counting or anything but its 37 years 3 months and 6 days since I was diagnosed. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Huge changes in that time. I do still feel like a novice as I have learned more in past few months than I did in first 37 years.

Everyday is a school day with type 1

77 years old.....with ease :)

I will have done 42 years, in late August/early September. Can't remember when exactly, but I remember the weather had a late summer/early autumn feel, and I think it was round about then.

It made me a different person, to who I would have been otherwise. In many ways far more determined, but in other ways not able to use that determination for anything other than surviving having T1D.

I fear that getting Freestyle Libre could turn me into quite a scary person, as it frees up the personality traits I've developed to survive, to be used on other things.

Not that any of you need worry about that. You're safe here.

For those that are unsure when you were sentenced to life as T1D and have access to your online medical records it's quite easy to find. Although mine says 29th July personally I think it was slightly earlier in the year but anyway go by the date it was entered in the 'system'.

@Knikki to come and trump me on his length of service to the T1D cause :D

Happy to oblige :angelic::D

I thought there was chocolate inside it, was a bit disappointed when I found out it was solid and no before you ask it is not real gold :joyful:

Plus there are a couple of others around the same sort of time server as me @kitedoc and @Dodo are two I know of :)

Hello all,

Can anyone recommend where I can buy rock tape at a decent price?

First sensor that doesn’t feel like it isn’t sticking properly.

35 years for me in October, and I may reach the 50, but I'm not one for looking too far ahead and not counting chickens afore they hatch :)

I can certainly empathise with that.

I've had an ok day, ended up in the pool this aft with the little un and her friend, they wanted to lark with some other kids so I went and terrorised the swim lane with poor backstroke :) but after my second collision with the lane marker line practised crawl in double lengths instead, my young un waited till she saw me tiring and dived in next to me at the deep end and raced me back but I didn't notice her till she passed me and I don't know if I caught her up and I'm not going to hear the last of it in the near future. :p
Bloods have been ok ish, a mild hypo first thing and a spike to 10 after the swim.

Edit, @helensaramay I got a box of 24 packs Dextro Enengy tabs thru the post today @ >2/3rds high street price so thanks again for that heads up :)

50 next year, Christmas Eve, so I’ll be having the chocolate and the non-chocolate versions. How did you go about claiming yours @Knikki? I hear they used to be given as a sort of reward for getting through the obstacle course but now we have to pay for them.

I was in another county when diagnosed, up north, so a few years ago I asked my diabetes Dr in my own town the date of my diagnosis, and all it says is 1989 !

I hope we don't have to pay for them, that's shocking :mad:

Well done on getting near to your 50th, wow :)

My granddaughter was diagnosed at 2 1/2 years, so I really hope she makes it to 90, but what with technology, research and time, who knows what will come up regarding type 1, it may be a thing of our distant past :bag:
