If it’s the Hair song then the voice is probably the least attractive of the whole recording, but it reminds me, too, of hippy times. I saw the original cast in London in the late 60s, then went on to rip my new suede trousers, bought that day in the Kings Road, climbing over a pointy iron fence round a private garden in the centre of a swanky West End Square.
Those were the days. Six months pre diagnosis too!

If it’s Creedence Clearwater you just watched, I love it! Memories of On the Road in the opening sequence, and the clothes, the fun, the laid back ways.
 
@Fairygodmother It was definitely a fun time, hip huggers and the biggest bell bottoms with platform shoes! Macrame and black light posters. .

Hello all - who’s up with a teething baby?

I had my first non essential shopping trip on Saturday, well it was kind of essential as it was shoes for my elder daughter and some new clothes for her as she’d outgrown everything. But it was nice to potter round the shops a bit.

BGs have been seriously stable since starting the Omnipod, now wondering what’s made such a difference- is it the tech? New vial of insulin? Weather change? Hormones? One of the other billion factors? Long may it continue anyway!

Did it feel strange doing an essential ‘non-essential’ shop @ArtemisBow?
I donned a mask and went on a walk closer to town yesterday, along routes I’d not travelled since mid March, and it felt weird. I had a very socially distanced conversation with a young man on the other river bank who’d also stopped to gaze at some unusual and beautiful ducks. Turns out he’s overseeing safety in a supermarket online shopping packing facility, a job that probably didn’t have the same criteria when I last walked that route.
We also discussed ways to tell the difference between ducks and drakes. He wondered how I knew the term for the curls at the back of a teddy boy’s hairstyle. Had to tell him I’d been alive back then - surely it wasn’t THAT long ago
 
Morning all!

I got very over-excited yesterday with an e-mail asking me to go in for a couple of days next week (our last official week of term!). Alas, when I replied just 20 minutes after it had been sent, it had been dropped to just one afternoon, but as long as it remains at that, I will be seeing other people!!

Been having an excess of computer-based work this week so trying to keep off it when I am not working.

I went out this morning intotown, to see if I could get some buttons for the little baby jacket i have nearly finished, but no.
Queues were outside Primark, but I didn't Q as it's non essential at the moment, but had to Q at Barclays for about 10 minutes to deposit some money in, as i have been using my card for payments, I bought a few items from Tesco Metro, then home.

Hi all, it's a wet afternoon here, 1st of July too
I received a phone call from the school escort team asking me to cover a run for the next 2 to 3 weeks, hidden away within a forest area in a small village, so I said yes. It's to a school i have been to before ( it has secure units with fencing all the way around them) Monday to Thursday. I am pleased i can help and it's only 1 child, as that's all the vehicle will take for health and safety reasons.
 
It was weird to be out, our local shopping centre has a one way system and we had to queue outside the shoe shop for a bit. Then when she was getting measured they had masks, screens, the works. Felt really alien to me but my little girl took it in her stride - she hasn’t had her feet measured that many times so maybe she thinks this is the way it always is. Made me sad today that a big portion of her life will be with all these weird rules. I wish things could be more normal for her, I don’t want her to live a “new normal”


BGs still really stable, given the Omnipod the ultimate challenge tonight - pizza! Let’s see how it copes...
 
@ArtemisBow It will actually be easier on her having a part in the extra rules. She will either remember a time when it had to be done out of necessity or she will have adapted to the new normal better than the drastic change for most of us.

Face it, I remember a time in So California that I would ride my bike as a child wherever I could manage to peddle. Once I could ride a regular bike, no worries. I just had to be home at dusk. Now in So Calif, you only go down the street, you wear protective gear, and mom and dad are either out there or watching from the house. That's not bad, and certainly safer, but it makes you nostalgic about the older ways!
 
Morning all, stay steady.
It seems like a lot’s happened in the last 24 hours, with yet more U-turns over whether or not children transmit etc.
There’s still a lot of junk that’s too good for the dump, but not yet been recycled following the installation of the new kitchen. It was completed on 23 March! Much of the junk’s in the futility room (it’s got the washing machine, the scrub stuff down sink, the cat’s bowls, and my paints, clay and easel). It’s my art-doodling sploshing place.
I’m itching to get the space back. Husband’s spent much of lockdown decorating and woodworking while I’ve tried to reclaim the neglected garden and made a couple of clay figures.
Husband’s woodworking outdoors today as it’s fine weather, he’s finishing a replacement for some shelving in the kitchen. He tends to use the far end in the dining area as a woodworking place too, as well as the outhouse, where garden stuff’s been squashed into a corner.
Little does he know that the old shelving’s going to be in part of the dining area so I can free up my painting area in the futility room. If you combine futility room and art room in an easy four letter word you get the family name for that space.
 
I regret the loss of the old ways too, the “new normal” seems so inhuman. Like @Marie2, I have fond memories of being free to go out anywhere on a bike, without anyone worrying. There were far fewer cars back then, and the dangers were, it seemed, all from falling off into a ditch or getting a puncture and having to walk home. When my children were young I was anxious about them crossing roads and riding bikes. I felt immeasurably sad that they couldn’t have the freedom I’d had.
 
Afternoon all. The give every inch of the house a thorough clean prior to probable painting and decorating has begun along with creating the small DIY jobs list. Just about to go and finish one of my most hated tasks, cleaning the kitchen blinds. Also ensuring meter/Dextro tablets are close at hand given being up and down stepladders is a surefire strategy for lowering blood sugars!

I have a rota for next week - whilst it's not "my" students it's some leavers who I know well, and it's helping with the finishing off more academically based work than my current bunch will ever be capable of doing. So, I'm excited on lots of fronts as it means I get a chance to say good-bye and good luck to these ones as well as getting a glimpse of what's been going on in the workplace. We did the last video calls with my students this week, though we are doing a massive all-staff all-students group one to finish before the official end of term.

Thanks all. I think I’m just feeling it really acutely this week. It’s nearly her 4th birthday, and earlier in the year I’d been thinking about having her first proper birthday party with friends, games etc. That’s obviously not happening. She’ll start school in September, but it won’t look anything like school as even her older cousins knew it, let alone as I did. It’s the speed of change that depresses me. I expected things to be different from when i grew up, but this is change on a major scale.
