Thanks FG it’s just the thought of the needle makes my tummy churn
Yikes @smc4761, thanks and so well done for being brilliant for 37 years. I haven't got that long left on the calendar and really have to say that anyone who has lived with T1D for so long are superstars.OMG those amounts, I know we are all different and its amazing by how much. Typically I will take around 25--30 units of Novoslow, and thats only because I have reduced my carb intake. This time last year I was taking about 220 g of carbs and taking around 40 units of Novoslow.
My Levemir is 18 units in morning and 26 units at night. Maybe because I have been Type 1 for soo long 37 years i have built up some insulin resistance, My ratios for Novoslow are typically 1:3 for brekkie and 1:5 for other meals.
What ratios / amounts of insulin do others take?
Hi @Fairygodmother this was not about the dreaded liver dump but simply a matter of over-correcting a hypo. Liver dumps just put me in a bad mood coz I can't do anything about them.Good luck. Liver dumps are a system wrecker, but they can eventually be subdued.
Hope your brain’s feeling more stable now too. The way a lack of energy to power it affects thought and physical processes can be very unnerving, but you’re back. Liver dumps have an upside that’s hard to remember when you’re pumping in insulin and to get the bs down again. There’s often a post-hypo reluctance to allow exogenous insulin to do it’s job so getting he balance between too much and too little’s sometimes a careful, and patient, balancing act.
I know you work hard physically @kev-w and I reckond you need your food. I also know from what you've written that you've been T1D for ages so you know how to do the bolus. Little me is just a little old learner and I worry about eating so much and bolusing so much. Unlike you, I don't do that much exercise. I'm always envious of the porridge you eatI weigh 80kg, I use 17u Tresiba and between 14 -18u Humalog a day and eat around 200g complex carbs.
Humalog as in 5.5u for 50g carbs breakfast, 1 - 2u mid day correction/food bolus (depends on if I'm swimming) possible 1u afternoon correction and 6 - 8.5u for tea, possibly 1 -2u for supper Weetabix.
I've been surprised at how many units of the various bits everyone takes and would like to know too. I'd also like to know how long people have been T1D so it gives a kind of,I don't, a bit of comparison.
My Novoslug is 1:10 whenever I have to do the biz which as I said is rare.
Wow @Cumberland that is serious amount of insulin, guessing you must have been type 1 for many years
Eyes and needles..... tummy churning would be the least of my concerns. It’s what would be twitching that would be of greater concern.
Apparently, according to a few people I know it’s an amazing op to have done and the end results are also amazing.
Good luck
Good luck Cumbs. it's the unknown that's the scariest, especially when it involves the eyes, but I'm sure you will be just fine and it will be all over and done with soon.
Good Luck x
Well done cumbs your a superstarI was born with Pancreas Divisum
Wrongly diagnosed as T2 aged 20
I had all sorts of issues as a kid
It was only 3 years ago that I was reassessed with a C Peptide test which determined I had T1 all along
35 years living with this condition but I’ll never surrender
Always been in my ideal weight range thankfully
I don't know about cataract procedures @Cumberland .
But with regards to the injections I used to have for the macula edema? The local anaesthetic is in the form of eye drops administered prior. I certainly couldn't feel the needle..
Wishing you all the best.
Well done cumbs your a superstar
Jaylee I pray I don’t feel the needle
They will use eye drops as an anaesthetic might tell em to squirt the full bottle lol
You won't feel a thing mate..
I just can't guarantee you won't see what's going on..
Oddly, I used to focus on an imaginary pyramid with a central flame, whilst the bass line from wrathchild by Iron maiden ran though my head as they faffed with the prep?
It's all routine procedures these days. Just focus on the benefits of restored eyesight as the outcome..
Thanks Robs I’m a big baby (shudders)
I take 11 units tresiba at 10pm for basal and my bolus ratio is 1:10 i also have to take metformin with meals due to insulin sensitivity
