Type 1'stars R Us

It is great that you were able to start on the road to control without having to go on insulin. I know if I’d had that option I would have jumped on it. Unfortunately Type 1s do not have that option it’s either that or ultimately death to not put too finer a point on it. Once on it, every waking (and sleeping) hour, you have to be aware of levels to keep yourself safe. It is hard work and boring.
I personally do not believe insulin causes wait gain in type 1 diabetics. The fact that people suggest this makes me annoyed. What you put in your mouth does. The more you eat the more you have to inject. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will put weight on. It’s not rocket science. My weight has remained stable nearly 5 years after diagnosis.
Some type 1s will low carb like type 2s to make their management of this condition easier. It makes dose calculations more predictable. Others can manage easily, eating what they want and matching insulin to it. Others like myself take the middle of the road approach. It is a totally personal thing. If we wanted to eat that bit of cream cake or Mars bar then we could as long as insulin is matched to it.
Type 2s really shouldn’t unless they too are matching with insulin, as they wouldn’t be able to catch that sugar rise.
@becca59 That's interesting and i agree with the weight gain thing also thanks for the reply and to all those that did. I'm curious about many things in this forum but as i said i'm not type1 but still we all live with the condition so to speak. Very interesting.

@kitedoc Thanks for that information and replying to my post. So much you guys have to think about with the mixing and matching your medications. All have you have done so well with a condition that you can never have a day off with. Thanks again.
Thank you very much @Moggely. But please, too much praise and we will all have to change our hat size in addition to lack of time off and being indispensable to ourselves !!!

My walk was about 40 minutes, I tested far more often than half an hour. A libre test is easy, I usually test every ten minutes. But it just didn't fall while I was walking. So I thought it would fall when I got back, but it didn't, or not until a lot later. So it caught me out.

However I corrected with a small carton of orange juice 18g a banana which I'd started eating when I was still trusting the libre, because it didnt feel right, so that's about 15g, it was only a small banana, plus 3 wine gums, which is 12g.

So that's a total of 45g of carbs.

The LO was at 17:11
a finger prick test showed 8.2 at 17:36

The LO could have been an inaccurate reading, but I certainly felt uncomfortably weird, in a hypo sort of way, which was why I started eating the banana.

My experience is that the more carbs you eat during a hypo the faster they act.
Or could it be that the liver is dumping glucose into the blood stream in response to the hypo ?

I’m married to an old school biker. His toolkit comes in two pound increments. As a silversmith I have tiny 1oz hammers. We like hammers. I guess dextrose tabs are the diabetic equivalent of gaffer tape...

A line from Doctor Who the pyramids of mars 1975 where the Doctor is trying to deactivate a force field.....

Could be, but I reached a peak of 11.9 at 6.07 pm, and corrected with 2 units of Novorapid. Then another 2 after that, and ate a meal of about 15g. By 9.30pm it was down to the low 5s/high 4s, so I ate a mango, and it went back up to the 6s, where I wanted to be overnight. If my carb intake at the time of the hypo was 43g, those figures don't suggest a massive amount of glucose from the liver, though it doesn't rule out any at all.

But I had had quite a few hypos the night before, so there may not have been much stored.

Good morning,

Woke up on 6.8 at about 6.30 am, which is good enough, after my adventure with a hypo yesterday. Would have liked more sleep, because I kept on checking my blood sugar during the night, but never mind..............

All good observations. It is much an art as a science, methinks.

Good morning...should say not so good morning :)
Woke to a 14.9 grrrrr. Had bolognese and pasta. Worked out the carbs, easy worked out bolus and added 2 units and split bolus. All going swimmingly, 8.1 before bed dead straight line. As soon as I was in bed thanks to etch-a-sketch my bloods started to climb. Ah well, breakfast, correction dose and now on a 11.7, yet another correction dose. Salad for dinner today, don't want to rock the boat too much lol

View attachment 28171 Tea ended up being a Cuban sauce, 100g carbs, 4.5 units Humalog, a rich tea biscuit in an hour :)

While I would class that as "food porn" and looks dddddelicious what has me slightly concerened is the bottle of CKOne after shave at the back? :shifty:

Were you expecting that to work its way through quicker than you thought and need the CKOne as an air freshner? :hilarious:

Morning all

Things over here rather ticky boo :pompous: all SIG over night after a bit of a hypo mid evening yesterday, nothing to worry about, soon sorted :)

@porl69 Funny we had spag boll last night as well one of those curly spaghetti types with lamb mince and a sauce from Aldi ~other supermarkets are available~ with some garlic bread worked out round about 100g of cartbs so split in went 6 of ashpidistra ended up in hypo land o_O which was odd.

Was on the low side when went to bed but stuck another 3 units in plus a Jaffa Cake and was in the greens all night.

@Moggely See me and @porl69 had close to the same tea and we both had differnet effects.:dead::bag:

Sometimes this condition just does not make sence.

@Knikki its a pretty regular meal for me and the misses. 99% of the time I get it smack on. Yesterday was a bit cloudy, weather wise, SO that probably made the difference OH and I didn' have my socks on when I did my 1st bolus!!!!

I lolled at that :) no I'm just an odd ball, living on my own in a 3 bed house I tend to sit in front of my pc desk on a wooden chair, as I've done for 19 years :) dining table I use for clothes storage when I cba to put them away, the CK was left there by my lad who uses it each visit, I'm not into TV so the sofa is rarely used, so the desk's a kind of multi use place :p and my roll on's on the right out of camera shot....

No @Knikki it really doesn't make sense it's why i'm rather intrigued with it all. But you guys really seem to take it in your stride so well. I guess many of you have had it for so many years.
