Pinch punch ... now January is over.

I too woke to see white stuff covering roads and cars. I don't think it will last as it is already falling off roofs.
.

Could be down to insufficient roof cladding, allowing heat to rise up & out as the CH is cranked up..?

I didn't believe all the hype & warnings regarding "end of days" happening in my little corner of the world yesterday..

Had the day off anyway today & woke up to this dropping overnight..
The roads? I wouldn't chance it. Been out with the dog & he could barely walk in it. Seriously struggling & needed to be carried in places.. No evidence of gritting either...

It's a winter wonderland! & still throwing it down..

... & no, my van has not been lowered. ;)

No snow in this neck of the woods. A good, hard ground frost has put paid to planned slabbing. Spent awhile cutting slabs in anticipation of a thaw.
Not sure about CH cars but I seem to recall a German car manufacturer may supply you with a car that you can program to activate the heaters as and when required, resulting in a thawed out car early in the morning.

But maybe that's something they could introduce for electric cars. I could see it working when they are charging.

I've not had to scrape ice off my plug-in hybrid ever! It's set so the heater comes on every work day morning - granted this morning I had to brush the snow off of it!

It's sliding off the roofs of parked cars as well as houses.
Whilst it could be a great invention to avoid the need for scraping ice off on winter mornings, I don't think any cars have CH.
I suspect there would be an outcry for pumping out fumes whilst parked.

Hmmm - do you think I should patent the idea?

The latest local weather report here is about 4" snow lying and more falling.
Google says it is currently zero degrees outside and my central heating agrees. My office thermometer said 16.0 degrees. Then the heating realised and came on to warm it up to a wapping 17.6.

I had the option of fitting a "remote start" system when installing the alarm on my last vehicle. Too much of a liability.

Taking a soft brush & clearing the roof on any vehicle is low tech but advisable before attempting to drive.
Lol, folk have been caught out with the snow on the roof sliding forward & obscuring the windscreen & laboring wipers.

Yep, I would have expected it to ease off by now.. But still it falls.
Not even melting. Just dropping off the trees under its own weight.

Do you drive a Tesla?
If so, my image of you has just changed.
Bloody hell no.....one of the customers who comes to the garage has one. In the mornings he presses something on the remote and it heats the car up so its warm when he gets in! They are a very nice car thou.
My last car was a VW Bora 2001 with 298k miles on the clock, its currently on the drive :(

I won't tell you about the idiot I saw this morning then driving around with a 3ft snowman on top of his car roof, I sat there shaking my head but also laughing my head off - a bit like the snowman :hilarious:

I think you can turn the cabin heater in your tesla on from your phone - preheat is normal in cold places.

No ice to scrape off my car either in a morning - I simply open the garage door and reverse it out. :)

Does the Bora still go occasionally @porl69?

Yeah the other half uses it on times, I want to get it to 300k. The engine will make it with ease BUT the body work, wings, are a bit rusty

You can't have both it seems as they age - either they rot on the outside or the oily bits give up. Bodywork is the lesser of two evils to me. I thought my mates petrol 55 plate A4 hitting 200k was good going! Next target on mine is 123456.

Oily bits are not the problem for me, I work in a garage/MOT station :) Body work is my issue

Pipes got my last car at 230K - went in for an MOT, came out with ebola. Full set of brake + suspension pipes for a Xantia gets expensive. I was quite sad - I'd hoped it would get to 300K. Current car will probably die from bodywork. I've never killed an engine.

The cam belt snapped on the Bora a few years ago.....I called in a LOT of favours and got it done pretty cheaply (no labor cost)

Lots of snow here and it's been snowing continually for about 3 hours !! Limited bus services, gridlock at some car parks and some shops are closing up earlier. Yellow warning from the Met office.
