Type 1'stars R Us

@Robinredbreast glad you are enjoying the Libre, but why are you giving it back. Are you not eligible after your stay in hospital last year.

My friend who spoke to consultant on my behalf said it looks like I would fit the criteria, but when I was well enough to see him, I was told no !! I left the hospital feeling upset, frustrated, lied to and angry. Saying and doing are entirely different things !!

This is a trial one, as I was told it may not suit everyone, I have my other appointment at the end of June, for a funded Libre ( finger's crossed. From what was said yesterday, there is still a criteria to fit, probably cost too, so, will the patient use it to it's full capacity ? also I am to do a 2 day food diary and hand everything back in 2 weeks time, then another appointment shortly afterwards to go over my usage and the food diary.
I know my DSN well and she is great, reading between the lines the Libre wont be given out freely to just anyone who wants one.
So, I am keeping my finger's crossed ( I'm in Hampshire) that I will get the Libre. If not, they better watch out !

Afternoon.

Im looking forward to starting the Easter Eggs :joyful:

Anyway a couple of questions, does anyone see or hear from @NoKindOfSusie ? I used to see her around the forum before I joined (first time :hilarious:) and sort of curious to see how she is getting on.

The other thing Sausages?

I was mooching round the forum the other night and they came up in conversation and it was mentioned "you can get low carb ones" :wideyed:o_O

Really, is this true, they have carbs??

If this is true I never knew that plus I have never, nor will I, carb counted sausages. :):hungry:
A lot of sausages have rusk etc as filler, so can have a carb count. Decent meaty ones wouldn’t.

I think it depends what country you're in. My friends in the USA were horrified when I told them about filler in sausages - they expect them to be meat. Just meat.

We buy them because the dogs adore them as a treat.

I made seitan today, and it was easy. Next time I'll make spicy sausages out of the base mixture. Maybe next weekend. I wouldn't be so keen on the stuff had I not discovered the food values - low calorie, low carb, low fat and high protein! But if you're gluten intolerant don't even think about it.

Good sausages like Heck and other premium ones with about 95% meat have negligible carbs. But Richmond sausages, Britains favourite ( why????) they onlycontain about 44% meat, will have considerably more

Good Good Friday afternoon everyone.
Good luck @Mel dCP and fingers crossed for uni.
Lovely and sunny here in the East Mids.
Shopping and lunch completed, seem to have a bit of insulin resistance at the moment either that or the Novorapid is actually just saline.:):). Never mind I’ll just keep putting more in and see how it goes. Won’t be surprised if it all kicks in at once and the inevitable happens.
Off gym soon and then home for some garage painting. Previous owners left copious amounts of emulsion and on account you now need a permit to dispose of it I’ve decided to give the inside of the garage a makeover.
I’m calling the new mix.....early morning mist in wild meadow beige......or.....magnolia.:)

Good afternoon all, and a lovely sunny one it is.
It’ll be just straightforward mean if you’re denied libre on prescription @Robinredbreast!
And sausages! Spicy ones are best and ones without the cheat-you rusk. There are chicken ones too that are ok. I always look at the back of the packet for the carbs. The best we’re packetless, spicy, very meaty and made on site by a butcher that’s now closed

@Scott-C That is absolutely FANTASTIC! :joyful::joyful::joyful: I love it. Then again, for my birthday a couple of years ago my son took me to an ArchEnemy gig (they were the support for Nightwish) and it was the best pressie I've ever had. I love metal. Thank you so much - I shall forward the link to my son and his partner (she's veggie edging towards vegan, and a metal fan).

And that looked like a bat'leth being used as a knife! Small one, but bat'leth style and I wantssss it.

28 hours breather between today's church-based shenanigans and tomorrow's, which will involve fires, and the bulk of the organist's Holy Week work is now done. I have a long piece of music to sing tomorrow, but judging by today's inability to sing (an awful lot of opening my mouth to sing and nothing emerging, so I gave up) it'll be the hymn version which everyone can join in with rather than listen to me massacre a most glorious piece of music (well, I think so, but I'm a bit nerdy about church music) only sung once a year.

I've just had my annual Hot Cross bun so I'm happy and contented and all carbed up for a long walk before a concert I'm attending this evening.

Lol, @WuTwo , I'm neither vegan nor into metal, but, yeah, his videos are pretty amusing!

There's about another ten or so on his youtube channel, practically a whole album!

Don't know if he does tours, but it would be fun inviting him along to present at a diabetes conference - guy wearing a suit on stall 3 explaining the ins and outs of the latest pump, guy on stall 4 cranking out metal and hitting vegetables with an axe.

@Robinredbreast am still amazed. Cost doesn’t come into it anymore and each health authority has to stick to the criteria rigidly. They are not allowed to adapt to suit there own needs.

From Diabetes UK

The criteria

From April, the NHS will provide the technology for one in five of those with type 1 diabetes in England. Those who qualify include:

  • People with type 1 diabetes who need intensive monitoring (more than 8 times every day) as demonstrated in a review over the past 3 months.
  • People with type 1 diabetes associated with cystic fibrosis on insulin treatment
  • Pregnant women with Type 1 Diabetes for 12 months in total
  • People with Type 1 diabetes unable to routinely self-monitor blood glucose due to disability
  • People with Type 1 diabetes for whom the specialist diabetes MDT determines have occupational or psychosocial circumstances that warrant a 6-month trial of Libre with appropriate support.

Patients will be able to receive it on prescription from their local GP or diabetes team, helping them to better manage their blood sugar level and NHS England will reimburse local health groups for costs of the wearable sensors.

I'd go, and I try hard to stay clear of conferences and exhibition type stuff as a rule.

The only two I recall were that years ago I went to the NEC for a martial arts exhibition. My Shihan was doing a spot, and the Shaolin monks were there too. It was brilliant! Amazing fighters.

And I went to the dollshouse exhibition a few years ago - picked up a hand-cast metal kitchen range that retailed (years ago) at £125 for £25. Great show.

Anyway - good morning all - and I shall be keeping my (mental) fingers and toes crossed for you @Robinredbreast

@Knikki - your experiment is interesting. I fingerprick but I've been trying to note the differences in appearance between my blood in its various states. I do know that if I'm low it looks kinda thin and not so deeply red as when I'm normal/edging into higher.

I shall keep staring!

Good morning early birds @Knikki and @WuTwo :)
I am really enjoying using the Libre, shows trends, BG going down or up, so easy to use too, my daughter scanned me last night and said it was
I am up early, the sun is shining and it will be the hottest Easter day too :wideyed: but I'm off to work today, promoting a famous chocolate Easter bunny, with some small free egg samples for customer's and I will be working with another person. So sitting with a cuppa and I will read through the brief again.
Happy Saturday and enjoy what ever you do :)
