I've cut out nearly all carbs in a bid to gain control, but no matter what I eat my mmol/l is constantly high. It ranges from 7.6 to 18.0 my FBG is usually around 9.5 and upwards. What am I doing wrong? I'm on Metformin 3 times a day.

Hi is it moving in the right direction?

How long have you been on a reduced carb diet? On average people are seeing a slow reduction over weeks and getting to their best levels in 6-9 months.

It might be worth posting a typical days food to see if anyone can spot anything?

I totally feel your frustration! I've been doing lc for about 3 months and the figures have come down slowly, I didn't buy a meter straight away but when i started testing my readings were always in double figures, each week or so I would start to see occasional lower numbers, within a couple of weeks these would become the norm. Now I'm mainly in the 7''s with the occasional 6, hopefully within the next couple of weeks there will be more 6''s and the occasional 5. Just keep doing what your doing, it takes a while for your body to catch up with all your effort. (Just to let you know I'm also on 3 met a day, my initial hba1c was 112 - I'm still quite mortified about that but after 2 months on lc it was 68)

Hi. If you really have cut out virtually all your carbs any excess weight should disappear. If your BS remains too high despite a good BMI talk to the GP. It's always possible you are Late onset T1 and not T2 and further medication will be needed. Note that metformin only ever has a minor effect on BS.
