Type 2 and fatty liver

Hi my mum has type 2 diabetes and fatty liver does anyone know the best diet (more of a lifestyle change) for this please i really want to help her out.
 
There are several eating plans that can work, but all of them involve reducing carbohydrate. For fatty livers, avoiding fruit and any foods that contain high levels of fructose as fructose is a major culprit. Reduced carbs will also help with fatty livers, and particularly with high blood glucose. All carbs turn to sugar once inside the system, whether wholemeal or not, so to reduce glucose levels we need to reduce carbs. It is not necessary to avoid fats because they do not cause high blood sugar levels, nor are they a major player in fatty livers.
 
Thank you for the replys, is the ketogenic diet any good for these issues?

That all depends on the medication she is on - do you know what she takes for her diabetes? If she takes none at all, or just Metformin, then it is a good diet for these issues.
 
Just checking that it is Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver - booze can put fat in your liver as well.

It can be great.
But the honest truth is no diet s going to work if your mum can't stick to it.:banghead:

You know her best is jumping into keto with both feet something she is going to be on board with?
Will she stick to it? Keto can be tough its a complacently different way of eating is she set in her ways?

Perhaps Keto is the solution.:bookworm:
I would recommend taking a longer route to get there start with no sugar read every label of every thing she buys with her. 6 spoons is the recommended dose for a non diabetic = about 25 grams a day. So you want her to be eating about 15 grams or less over the whole day.

Do this for about a month and you should noticeable weight loss.

Next step would be to start lowering carbohydrates.:bookworm:
Things like potatoes, rice, past, pizza and especially breakfast cereals. (she can start this in the first month too)
For most people when they lower there carb intake they feel less hungry this would be a good time to start a diet in earnest.
She doesn't have to count calories unless she wants to, just consciously cut back on portion size.

With the reduction of carbs and the feeling of being fuller for longer snacking should be easy to cut out or down.

Do this for a month and transfering over to a keto diet should not be a shock to the system.:bookworm:
Your giving her every chance of being able to succeed.

BUT just as important if she does fail to stick to a keto diet your setting her up to fail upwards.
She would go back to the low carb LCFH option which many people have found great success with.
At this point she should have lost weight, be more concious of her condition and what works for her, also eating better too.

You have got to be sneaky when it comes to mums. ;)

Is your mother happy for your to help her out? I understand you love her and want to help her, but is she also Ok with this?

Yes 100% ive sat and read the replys out to her shes up for anything really because her liver is quite bad the hospital have said action needs taking a.s.a.p they have refered her to the dietition and there doing loads of liver scans and lots of tests because of how bad its got they have also swapped the metmorphin she was on she knows its going to be hard but she also knows it has to be done she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a yr ago so its happened quite fast the only reason shes not on here herself is just down to the fact she works most days and isnt 2 up on working the internet.
 
A very simple diet that works well is unlimted steak and eggs along with green veg. (Both steaks and eggs has close to the ideal mix of fat and proteins.)

The fasted result comes from using diet shakes, but it needs committed and after the 8 weeks, a switch to real foods is needed.

Clearly as liver fat is created from fructose all suger must be avoided including fruit.

Sorry I didn't realise things were so bad.

This Book might help the 8 week sugar diet by Dr Michel Mosley.
The book is designed around the idea to drain the liver of FAT to reverse diabetes in as little as 8 weeks.
I thought you were looking to help your mum with a life style change, every thing in this book makes perfect sense to me.

I used something called 'Lipotropic factors' alongside a low carb diet. My ALT liver test improved in 2 weeks.

As Bluetit1802 says your Mum should be careful to avoid most fruits because fructose makes fatty liver worse. Also anything with fructose listed as an ingredient, it sounds healthy but it isn't.

Milk thistle is a good supplement to use to help heal the liver.

Does your Mum get her blood results sent to her online? Or have printouts? It's useful to see them to see how well she is doing, it's encouraging when you see the results improving and you know you are on the right track.
