Type 2 And Thinking Of Going Low Carb. What Are The Benefits?

Thank you for feedback I think I will give it a try even if it only reduces the amount if insulin I need to take will be a positive

I have no personal experience to offer you, but there have been T2s on insulin who have been able to reduce their insulin use, and some even able to stop using it.

I would say that you must be able and confident in adjusting your insulin dosing to go down this route, as the blood sugar reactions can be quite marked, and not take long.

If you intend going down this route, please ensure you have lots of strips so that you test as often as required, in order to remain safe and comfortable.

Good luck, whichever route you take.

Thank you for feedback have plenty of strips and happy to test regularly and monitor need for novorapid so will give it a go

I would suggest you test, test, test, and when you think you're done testing,....... test more!

When you change the content and proportions of your diet (mainly reducing carbs, and probably upping the fats), your insulin responses may change.

Most folks find keeping a diary of what they've eaten, their blood scores pre and posy meals and in your case, the insulin needed to be really, really useful for identifying trends and making safe adjustments to either diet or insulin.

For me:

  • Disappearance of 5-6 years of deblitating tiredness and brain fog
  • mental clarity
  • almost immediate and permanent reduction in glucose levels to low pre-diabetic/ just on normal levels
  • stable glucose levels
  • reduction in meds - including statins & non diabetic ones
  • almost complete relief from life long chronic migraines
  • no more hayfever
  • dramatic weight loss after going ultra low carb/ketogenc for a while
  • escape from (husband's choice of ) high carb diet :banghead: to a much more preferred and healthy low carb one
  • more energy
  • much better all round life!
  • (ETA as I nearly forgot !) improved/reduced blood pressure
And if you make sensible choices it's also an easy to maintain lifestyle change....
