Hi - new here and feel a bit like a pleb.

Everything is a bit of a strange roller coaster at the moment

Diagnosed type 2 on 12th feb following routine fasting blood. I had noticed symptoms for a while - especially thirst and peeing a lot - but just put it don't to the fact I don't really drink much and when I did it was tea and coffee which goes straight through!

Mum died on 9th of feb, so when doctor told me he told me to come back in 4 weeks when my head was in a better place to take on learning and understanding this.

4 weeks later they put me on metformin and it's working quite well! On one a day, they did another blood test thing that alar is my average blood level or so,etching and they said if it's less then 59 to stay on one tablet - and apparently it's less (you guys might understand that more then me,! I've only forgotten it once or twice, and that's because I forgot to eat - I'll only take it with a meal as I've been told it can mess with my stomach.

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which can lead to type 2 diabetes and another good thing with metformin is it helps alleviate the symptoms of PCOS.

I'm 23 though and feel alone in all this. A lot of people I know tend to be older then me :(

You've got to see the best of a bad situation I suppose

Hi Rosanna

Really sorry to hear about your loss.
@daisy will give you info for newly diagnosed.
Please read around the forum and you will get loads of info as to what to follow and eat.

You have found the right place and are among friends.

Sorry to hear about mum

Yes I know its a daunting prospect but you will get plenty of help, guidance and encouragement here

Sorry about your loss Rosanna, especially at a young age.

Stick around this forum, the advice you get here is normally better than you'll get elsewhere (certainly better than I got from my GP practice). You'll find support and even handy recipes too!

just a quick welcome from me and really sorry about your Mum
good to see you have found some support .

remember too -- no question is silly or stupid -- we have all been there with the D

Hi and welcome.

I have PCOS (now 48 yrs).

If I could go back to 23 and be given a single piece of advice that would make the biggest possible difference to my PCOS/Type 2 combo, it would be to eat low carb.

Here's a link if you want to know more.

I really cannot recommend the way of eating highly enough.

Losing your Mum is devastating in itself but then to be diagnosed type 2 within days gives you a lot to deal with. You have found a good place here with lots of advice and loads of lovely people to help and support you. I was diagnosed last May and would have been lost had I not found this forum, stick with it and have a good read around and welcome

I cannot agree with Brunneria's post more. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my 20's (now 43 yo) and I wish I knew then what I am learning now. You have come to a great place for information. And you are not alone.
