Anyone have type 2 diabetes and lactose intolerance?
I struggle with what types of things to eat or drink instead of milk. I notice often that there are recommendations for dairy products in our diets.
I used to take lactose free milk but stopped taking it to help reduce my tea with milk and sugar addiction. So when I try to reintroduce milk I can't take it. (I have nausea with Metformin meds as well as other symptoms)
I know you can buy dairy alternatives. Are these okay for diabetes type 2 please?
Any recommendations?
Thanks

I use unsweetened coconut milk, the make I buy is called Koko, it’s zero carb.

I've used several brands of unsweetened (and generally the longlife options) of almond or hazelnut "milk" in my coffee and cocoa drinks without any problems. Some claim no carbs or sugar, other no sugar but minute amounts of carbs - presumably from the actual nut content.

Hia. I’m lactose intolerant and I use Arla Lacto Free Semi Skimmed. I only use a drop and only have 2 coffees or teas a day max. Per 100 it’s 2.6g carbs but I reckon I use less than 50ml a day :)

Hi been lactose intolerant for all my life and I just don't bother using substitutes at all.
I know it's a personal preference but if you get the right teas and drinks the taste is so much better.

Going low carb without dairy does restrict choices, but I would rather do without than feel awful.

Be careful with the carb count if you do use milk substitutes.

Test for any you try.
I used to use an almond milk where the carb count looked OK, but I started getting unexpected spikes, and some have added sugar or sweetners.
It relatively easy to soak an almond or 2 overnight then blitz in a bender with water, strain and use.
Does not keep long but at least you know what's in it, and it's cheaper
