Hi I am a Type 2 Diabetic for the last 2 years and am on
Januvia 50mg 1 tablet daily and
Losartan Potassium !2.5mg 1 tablet daily
both are taken in the morning
I take my blood sugar level on Wednesday and Sunday before breakfast
and they are on average 8.00.
Should I ask my doctor to increase the dosage. I was not getting on with
Metformin--giving me stomach upsets at the end of the week
Please help and advise me--being 80 years old I worry a lot
Warm regards
Norman

Hi Norman, and welcome to the forums.

It's not unusual to be a little high first thing in the morning, this is because your liver can release stored glucose to help get you going at the start of the day. Try checking your BG's at other times - before meals and 2hrs after eating to see how much the food is making your glucose levels rise.

What do you typically eat in a day?

Hi and welcome. First the Losartan is not a diabetes drug but one that helps with hypertension etc. Januvia is the brand name for Sitagliptin which can help reduce blood sugar levels. There isn't much flexibility with dosage as you will see from the leaflet with it. Were you offered Metformin SR (Slow Release) version which is much kinder than the standard version? If not do discuss this with the GP as Metformin can help reduce blood sugar particularly if you have excess weight. There may be some age limitations with regard to dosage levels.

Hi,

There are some of us that do not get on with any version of Metformin. If you were to see my Dr he would not be worried with 8.0 however it sounds like it is bothering you. Are there any other adjustments you can make to reduce sugar intake? Have you done a food diary to see what spikes your levels?

Hi Norman,
I am on januvia,(sitagliptin) and I take 100mg per day.
Do as the other posters have said, probably reduce your carbs a little more and test pre meal and two hours later.
Experiment with different foods to see what spikes you and if you are over 2mmols above your pre meal reading then some food is spiking you.
If after this trial and error, I think a talk with your GP about increasing your dosage could be the answer.
If you are having too many carbs, then your readings will stay high.
Hope this helps.
