Type 2 diagnosed....out goes all the good food

Many of us do eat fruit - mainly berries, but I've found that i can eat a fairly wide selection of lower carb fruit - in moderation and with cream , so I can enjoy a little bit every day.

My husband too does most of the shopping and cooking. He's now buying less commercial sauces, but otherwise eats as he's always done, We share many meals, but I don't eat the bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc. and he'll often cook me alternatives such as celeriac chips, or cauliflower.

I think sometimes people may go to extremes with very low carb eating, but it isn't always necessary, and some people can cope happily with more carbs than others, which is why we always say "eat to your meter". Since low carbing often has to be a lifestyle rather than a limited fix-it diet, IMO it's necessary to make sure that it can be sustainable long term. So it's probably better to eat slightly more carbs, than eating fewer and then falling off the wagon because you can't cope with the restrictions you've set yourself.

Hi Andy, see if you can go on diabetes course, carbs and cals, you would be amazed at what you can eat, compared to what you think you can't......it was certainly an eye opener for me....your wife can go too, then when you know the basics you'll be able to adjust to suit your needs......wishing you well...

I was diagnosed nearly a year ago with t1.5 inherited.. I don't eat rice, pasta, potatoes and only wholesale bread. But I enjoy such a varied diet, home cook curries and cauliflower rich, streaks, fish, if I make spaghetti bolgnesse for my hubby, I use some of the meat sauce to stuff a pepper and have it with a cheese salad. My ffavourite Low carb desert is handmade Eton mess.

I'm not on insulin, just diet and metformin, had my review today average long term bg
6.1.
