Type 2 - Had a low last night, scared to sleep tonight!

I
I'm curious now about the RH. For a few years before I got sick and had my first serious low (now i know what that was - but still don't know what the prolonged illness ways) I experienced many of the symptoms of RH. I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder (and have had panic attacks) for 23 years. I'm 43 now. The curious years before my illness/dx included a really strange symptom of eating out for dinner and then just suddenly I'd fall asleep in the car. It could have been mid-sentence! I was unable to stop myself - I'd just pass out asleep. Thank God I was never driving. I read the RH threads but didn't see anyone else mention the falling asleep - like a sugar or carb crash multiplied 100 times - just going along down the road talking to my husband and suddenly waking up without realizing i'd even fallen asleep. So weird.

Since just after the birth of my second child in 1991 this has been happening - (not the instant falling asleep thing, but other symptoms...) - such as feeling unstable while standing, unbalanced, brain fog, inability to concentrate/focus - especially with anything involving reading or math. Difficulty following conversations. The further along in the day the worse the feelings.

So, lots to research, but again - I didn't see anyone mention the "nodding off."

Thank you to all.
have not had the nodding off!
But most of what you experienced I have been through.
Have a gander at Wikipedia on RH.
The list of symptoms is long and sometimes all together at once! Not every RHer has the same symptoms.
Anxiety is a big one, frustration, anger and more.
It was a shock to my system to discover that many.
I have been prodded and probed because of my restlessness that led to disruptive sleep and the weird dreams.
So vivid and realistic as well, and you remember them.

The prolonged illness that you had mirrors my fight and struggle that I had to get diagnosed. Approaching 15 years till I got diagnosed. All the weirdness of symptoms because of the fluctuating blood glucose levels.
If you have time read, the thread, according to my consultant. & according to my consultation 2015. Us the search function.
Read my blog 'a reactionary' that tells my story.
I was lucky (in the end) to get referred. GPs don't have a clue.
Get your doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist.
You won't die or be seriously ill with RH. As long as your in control. Once you get your head around what to do and eat and drink, things will by a lot better.
You need to keep testing and recording and testing to see what you 'react' to.
Let us know how you are doing.
Nosher.

Hi Spiroll, it does sound very much as if your thyroid isn't working properly. I had what is called "internal shivering" like something inside you vibrates, is that how it felt like?

Typical signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, brain fog, memory loss, avoiding social situations, depression, anxiety, thinning hair, cold feet and hands, feeling cold all the time, low body temperature, low pulse, joint and muscle pain, bad nails, constipation, general inability to cope and weight gain. To name a few.

I know you have lost weight and that can happen too but it is much more common to gain. What I mean is that weight loss doesn't exclude hypothyroidism.

Hormonal upheavals like pregnancy and menopause can cause the thyroid to stop working. And don't take their word for it when they tell you your thyroid is fine because your TSH is below the ridiculously high upper limit.
