Type 2 help needed

Type of diabetes

Diagnosed 2014 and since then nurse has been trying out different tablets to keep diabetes under control/ Met formin causes diarea, slow release the same. On pioglitazoneto help maintain. Bydureon injections were tried but caused bleeding. Now back to metformin 500mg this is a low dose!!! to take 1 a day to let my gut get used to it then increase t 2 a day.
Been trying this over the holiday period and to say I have lived in my bathroom is no joke. Have taken myself of these and will try for an appointment when they return after holidays.
Pioglitazone causes weight gain, sitaglitum which I was also on at same time also causes weight gain. I was a size 22/24 before I started and now wearing size 26/28
At the end of my rope here. Also got a hormone coil put in after having polyps removed in November. I was way past the menopause after going through it in my 40's. This coil has now re charged my cycle and have had a period since November.
This is all not helping so any help and advise will be gratefully recieved.
 
I had the same problem with Metformin and could not tolerate it at all . I now have it written on my medical records "alllergic to metformin "
I was prescribed vildagliptin and never put on any weight.
This combined with a low carb diet has got me into non diabetic numbers and have since dropped the vildagliptin and am diet controlled last blood test coming in a 37 .
Can you give us more information regarding your diet ? Do you follow the LCHF diet?

Thanks for that. I have no idea what LCHF is, at the moment I eat what I can tolerate, mostly toast and coffee. I do not have a healthy diet normally, but intend to kick start it soon, once I feel better.

Once I get over this spell with hormones and hey also had flu (merry christmas) I intend to eat healthier. Its when the health professionals say oh there are bad carbs and healthy carbs, ok enlighten me.
 
@newlifehelp hello. Have you read the information from daisy for new members? It could be that trying to eat a lower carb diet will help the hormone problem.
 
From what you say it sounds like your diet is causing you such high figures.
LCHF stands for Low Carb High Fat and is followed by many of us on this forum to keep our blood glucose under control. Carbs turn to sugar in your system so you need to restrict them as much as possible.
Dietdoctor.com gives a wealth of I formation and the low carb section of the forum .
Try and read up on this it will really help
 
Hi @newlifehelp ! LCHF is Low Carbohydrate High Fat and is a diet followed by many here and most of us that have adopted it have found that it is very successful in reducing blood glucose.
The bad and good carbs concept is about the amount of sugars in any carbohydrate as all carbs are not equal in in this respect. Some carby foods are all sugars whereas other are lower in sugars and it's latter ones to go for if one wants to keep blood glucose under control.
 
I have been trying to take Metformin, but it does a number on my insides, in fact it seems to be getting worse, I took one a couple of days ago and I am still not back to normal. I used a meter to measure my reaction to foods which I would not be able to eat and lose weight but some people can eat and not raise blood glucose - I found that they raise mine, not just a spike after meals but into the next day. I stick to salads low carb veges and low sugar fruits, and think I'll just give up on the Metformin.
My average BG readings were falling each week, but now I have run out of the strips so I am just keeping on eating low carb foods and hope that at my next test at the beginning of February I will have lowered my levels. I have to avoid sugar, grain, legumes, starchy vegetables - but at least I have lost weight.

you don't have to sign up but there is a heap of useful info. I have lost lots of weight and regained control of my blood sugar by eating LCHF and intermittent fasting (I skip breakfast always).
If you start out by thinking the only good carbs are those from green veg (including cauliflower) then you can't go far wrong. No grains,rice or sugar in any form including fruit.
Meats, fish, butter, cream, cheese all ok to start with along with the green veg and salad bits. Tea and coffee and water are fine. Try not to have fizzy drinks or fruit juice or lots of milk.
