Hi, I was diagnosed with T2 in October with an HBa1c of 11.8 - my bmi was perfect, I don’t drink or smoke and literally had to beg the doctor to test me for diabetes! She said it’s impossible we tested a year ago and your levels were perfect! She actually said unless you’ve eaten nothing but sugar for a year you cannot have it! She said go home, eat smaller meals, accept I’m getting older, have a glass of wine and chill!!!
Anyway she rang to say she was very wrong!
Started on metformin and Gliclazide but didn’t make much difference I was still testing high teens every test. By the end of January they had upped metformin to 2000mg, Gliclazide to 160mg and added 5mg dapagliflozin - my next HBa1c in February was 9.3 so they doubled the dapagliflozin - my levels are better if I follow a very low carb diet but I really could do with putting some weight on!
My latest HBa1c last week is 7.6 but this is literally me eating hardly any carbs- I have a really healthy diet and tried adding cream, cheese, avocado, salmon to help my weight gain but now my cholesterol levels have gone up!
Sorry for the long post, I just wondered if anyone experienced similar and if I can request to go on insulin instead of all the tablets, I think it might help me control it better and maybe add some carbs and put some weight on!
I’ve been self funding freestyle to try to understand better and it shows I’m high virtually all night between 9 and 13, drops back to 9 about 6am then goes up to about 12 before breakfast - I get in range most of the daytime if I stick to low carb. Thank you
