Type 2 Life

My view on testing after meals is it is not always possible to do an exact 2 hours but 2 and a half or even 3 hours afterwards would show you the direction your readings are going. If it was a meal I was really concerned about then worth testing. You are doing really well and your testing has paid off with your reduced HbA1c. Yes keep testing but there is no need to get worried when timing doesn't work. Have a good day.
 
Hi @TooManyCrisps I run a very busy trade counter for a flooring company and at times I have missed snack times and testing times on a number times and ended up having hypo's .
But now I make the customers wait for me rather me working round them some of them dont like waiting but like I say to them you can wait 2min while I do this or wait hrs while im on the floor recovering from a hypo .
Its a sad fact but you after look after number one because very few others care what happens to you
I do have good management who do care but there are times that things slip and if you dont say look I need to do this know not later it is us that suffer not them
 
6.8 for me just now which like @TooManyCrisps is good for me and now makes 3 consecutive days under 7.0......Yay!

I try to test 2 hours after eating but life can sometimes take over. To. be honest at the moment I am not experimenting much with food as my priority is to get by Blood Sugars as balanced as possible, so have a selection of foods that I know are fine and do not raise my levels. I will start experimenting more after my next HbA1c in June.

Although after all the Cyprus talk here yesterday I did look up Ouzo And was gutted to find it was 11 carbs a pop!

Hi @eldergarth. Thanks for this. I absolutely agree that if I was at risk of hypos I would test, no matter what else was going on. However, I'm not on meds and so test just to keep track. Yesterday afternoon I was giving a presentation to a meeting so really didn't want to walk out half way through! I just seem to have days where the 2 hour window doesn't work. But it's not a matter of life and death if I miss a couple of tests, whereas I know it could be if I was on insulin.

Day of work today @TooManyCrisps got my DESMOND course at my local community hospital 8hrs of NHS pushing carbs no doubt o joy
 
@tina_marie maybe you and hubby could start a new thread with other couples. There must be many and some shy ones who might need your support in depth. In turn they can relate to you both better. Hope to see your new thread to support too.
If the Desmond course is boring I might just do that ,if not will start one tonight.
 
I work in a school but have only been testing for just over a week GP has finally issued l me with meter on prescription. I work in the nursery class and hoping as there's a few colleagues in the classroom that I don't run into too much trouble when it comes to testing. We shall see when I return to work monday xx
 
5.1 this morning. Just an update for those (@13lizanne & @ickihun & others) who had given me help and support a while ago after my readings had gone higher and doctor thought I might be malnourished due to low trigs. I had been encouraged by GP to try a greater range of foods, Yes I can now eat both rice and pasta and often be under 5 after 2 hours now. I only seem to spike to about 7 after an hour to an hour and a half later and then below where I started from after 2 hours. I still need to be very careful with fruit. I have also managed to put on a little bit of weight and BMI now 20.1 as GP wanted my BMI above 20. I also no longer feel exhausted all the time which is also good. I tried cutting down my walking for a bit but have now gone back to mostly about 7 miles a day so I can eat more. My appointment with the dietician isn't until next month so will see what happens then. So thanks everyone.
Note for newbies. A year ago all these foods spiked me into double figures. I lost 2 and a half stone BMI 25 down to under 20 and have reduced my HbA1c to normal level. I would not be suggesting to people trying to control their diabetes to eat more carbs but it seems that now I have my diabetes under control I might need a few more carbs.

Hi hankjam, I know what you mean I am going to docs Friday morning I know he will send me to hospital for an x ray and I am frightened of them trying to move my arm. It wasn't as bad yesterday then I was up most of the night didn't know which way to lie. Will let you know how I get on , going to hospital tomorrow for my 3 month Hbac1 blood tests.
 
Wow that is amazing, @Hiitsme, you have done so well. Thanks for the reassurance to us newbies, I remember a few weeks ago you were very reassuring to me about FBG readings being the last to come down. I really appreciate that.
I am very impressed that you are now able to manage a few carbs. Enjoy!!
(And I'm not at all jealous about having to push your BMI up rather than down, oh no, not at all )
 
Hi Hitsme, I can tolerate 1 plum never had 2, have them a few times a week. You see I am ok with pears and dates and half a banana raspberries and strawberries too, I know there are some who can not even eat any fruit, I eat it as it is good for you really. Hope this is of a little help to you.
 
Hi debrasue, thanks for your reply, I know paracetamol don't do anything as I have been taking them, and all they have done is leave me constipated, not a nice thing to talk about buts that what they do. I have been using Ibuleve gel, now I have bought Ibuprofen gel and found this a lot better rubs in better too. Going to docs Friday morning I know now that he will send me for an X ray will let you know how I get on.
 
Sorry about your hypos, I get them occasionaly now but before it was the opposite for months & I didn't realise then on meds and lots of hypos, I always carry somat but I've been in shops and at bus stops (I can't drive) and I've just eaten, one woman said no eating to me once, but now if I feel hypo coming I quickly act or then just say sorry but I'm diabetic & use jelly baby, people can be very kind and understanding, in a shop once the assistant handed me a banana he recognised the symtims, charged me 12p after for the banana. Ha ha. Wear a wrist band, take care of your health, do they know at work your diabetic. Good luck
 
Terrific news @Hiitsme I wouldn't mind a few extra carbs myself, what will you choose extra bread? (my fav) rice? or something "naughty" your post is very encouraging for us all.
