Type 2 Life

I'm type 2 but have been hospitalized with DKA, doc said a minority of T2's especially those on insulin are susceptible to it. I have a Glucomen LX Plus B-Ketone blood testing meter along with my usual glucose meter. The strips only come in tubs of 5 and generally my DSN has to approve them as they are ultra expensive. I haven't used them for a while unless BM >13.9 mmol/l.

Good morning, my good friends,

I'm back at Tate South Lambeth Library on PC1 using the Internet due to still not having wi-fi in my home.

I awoke this morning and am happy to say that I've been abstinent from granulated sugar, and drank 1 mug of coffee with artificial sweeteners. I administered my Lixisenatide 20 mcg injection and 1 gram of Metformin at 5:59 ante meridian and my blood glucose reading at 6:10 ante meridian was 5.9 millimoles per litre. I haven't eaten much this morning, nothing at all, in fact. I've just had approximately 12-13 roll-ups made from Holborn Yellow rolling tobacco and 3 measuring cups of tap water.

Have a lovely day, my friends.

8.4 mmol/l. Must've been a rogue high reading. Insulin is in and a zero carb breakfast so it should come down.

Our chinese takeaway seaweed is fried cabbage. Seaweed contains kelp. Kelp used to be used for thyroid disorders.
You are doing fantastic! An inspiration.
Hmmm, you raise a good point here, @ickihun and I'm interested in @busydiabeticmum's post about the seaweed, too.
They used to treat thyroid disorders with kelp due to the iodine in it, and apparently women, particularly, are prone to thyroid disorders, especially when they are restricting their diet.
Much of our table salt, of course, is iodised, but apparently the iodine it contains is only 10% bio-available (able to be completely absorbed by the body), so it's not sufficient for our daily needs. Dairy, eggs and seafood are all good sources of iodine, but seaweed is even better.
Interestingly, there have been a number of reports recently regarding the connection between hypothyroidism and diabetes and its effect on BG control. Here's just one example, but there are lots of others if you care to Google them:

I think I'm going to be adding some nori to my shopping list!

Hey! You're back on track, Johnny - well done! That's a great reading.
I hope you have a lovely day.
Hugs

Eldergarth and @tina_marie , I'm sorry to hear of the diagnosis. I imagine your minds are in a whirl at the moment, but I just wanted to mention that my former sister-in-law has MS, and has had it for quite some years now. She was in her very early 30s when diagnosed.

Initially, like most longer term conditions, it seemed she was never away from the medics, with regimes chopping and changing, but once they had a suitable regime in place, she lives a good, active life, still travels extensively and is mid-way through a post-graduate degree at Uni, as well as running two businesses. I think we could safely say, she hasn't let it hold her back.

I know, like diabetes, we're all different, but I just wanted to say that many people do very well, and again like diabetes, once diagnosed and treated their lives are much better than the period of symptoms with no diagnosis in place.

Take things steady and give yourself some time to get to know your support team.

I really do wish you both well.

Thankyou much appreciated, we have taken ourselves down to the res at our model boat sailing club for the day. Ron needed to get out of the house and relax .

Hi Vicky, if it turns out Ron does have MS I'm not going to alter his diet because I've got use to the way things are . It took me ages to get a routine that works for him . Counting carbs and getting him to send me his BG readings when hes at work , helps me to plan our evening meal . I've looked over the swank diet but don't think it will help in any way . Not really looked into it that much.

Good afternoon all,

I haven't been doing very much; I've just been resting, watching CBBC, speaking to my 85-year old Dad who doesn't have AS but has well-controlled Type 2 Diabetes, eating ham sandwiches and drinking water, ingesting Red Mountain coffee with artificial sweeteners in them.

Because of the inertia of my day, and not having many friends to visit, I came to my local library to use the Internet on PC-4.

I won't be able to come to the library tomorrow to use the Internet and log on to www.diabetes.co.uk because the library is closed. I'll next be at the library at 1:00 post meridian on Monday afternoon.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone, and thank you very much indeed in integrity and truth for the advice @debrasue. You're all such good friends. God bless you and hugs in abundance to each one of you.

My BGL the last week has been really good so not sure what's going on. But will ask my doctor on the next appointment.

Cheers

I love seaweed and since I was diagnosed I have been better at reading nutritional facts. Yes, seaweed has been wonderful
love the wasabi flavored one. Oh Yum!!

Will look at ice cream recipes for sure.
I am always a huge fan of chocolate ice cream. Cannot wait to make some

Lots of love to you Deb xx

You are doing the right thing. Thank god he has you.
His hypos may be due to his body working harder to move due to MS.
It might be worth posting for other MS suffers to see if their attacks affect their bg levels. Anyway diabetes team should know and or MS team.
Did your scatica clear up ok?
How are you?

Still get sciatica but have found that walking helps a lot . I'm like Ron cant sit still for to long as I get stiff and that's when it hurts .

Also slimming tablet like XL from chemists have kelp to aid weight loss.
I've always been told to stay away from kelp, so I have.
Hypothyroidmum website is good but just pushes me to annoy my gp about T3 and T4 treatment which my gp doesnt believe I have a problem since my blood tests come back good on levothyroxine. Too be honest I know the effects of underactive thyroid for me and the last time I reduced my med I was ill so it definitely works for me. 2 pregnancies good on it too.
If it ant broken dont try to fix it, I say.
30g carb made my levothyroxine more sensitive. As all my medications.
I've had a thyroid problem longer than the diagnosed diabetes.
My thyroid problem was tested/diagnosed by a nurse at a new GP practice in London. Of which I am forever thankful. My new boss accused me of being pregnant (weight gain and no energy). Newly married at the time I thought was because my life was more active. I was superfit and jogged around Greenwich park. I was on top form til thyroid got attacked by pushing my body too far and starving myself. Yes I took things too far.
I have a history of extreme diets and exercise, hence why I take things slowly now.
Thanks @debrasue for your support.

Thankyou for being you.
Ron will come through this. You are both good for each other, anyone can see that.
I hope they reduce his diabetic meds.
Maybe the diabetes has stemmed from MS rather than the other way, I'm not sure but answers are on their way.
Well done getting through this far without wanting to kill each other. Ha ha.
Hopefully just be days now rather than months!
Once again well done and I hope something positive comes out of it all.
You both deserve some.

You've certainly travelled a rocky road in your time, Vicky, but it's made you super-knowledgeable about stuff - you are my go-to guru! Big hugs xxx

Wasabi? Ahh, that's your Balinese taste-buds speaking - my weedy little tongue can't cope with wasabi at all!!!
Good luck with the chocolate icecream - looking forward to hearing your verdict.
Lots of love to you, too, honey! And big hugs xx

Thanks Vicky but Tina always said need my head looking at guess she got her wish lol
