Type 2 Meds not working when getting infections etc

Type 2
Hello there
I have had type 2 for 20+ years. I have been managing on the maximum glylcazide ( 4 a day) and one slow release metformin which is all I can tolerate due to gut reaction. Medics experimented with giving me jardiance to help control but that caused thrush like symptoms for me.

Seemingly when well I can manage on the meds I currently take. But I have had infections for two months which has cause me to get consistently high (15+) BS readings.

Any ideas for the way forward? Medics say I dont really need insulin when well..... but clearly need to manage these high readings.

I exercise and am on a pretty tight low carb regime so there is little mileage there.

Any ideas on meds and possible use of insulin very welcome.

I feel very stuck at the mo.

I should stress that I am not a doctor and am T1 not T2 but is there a reason they don't want to give you temporary insulin.? My (possibly incorrect) understanding is that this is a fairly standard option in circumstances such as acute illness or steroids.

As a T1 I am used to illness meaning that I may need much more insulin than normal....

Welcome @StevePaul
Illness and infections can make it things difficult, I was wondering if any meds you are taking for the infections could be contributing to your high levels. Also I know you said your diet is low carb but sometimes a certain thing can punch way above its carb weight. Do you test around meals to see if there is something particular in your diet causing problems

Thank you... I was wondering... I think moving across to insulin is considered significant... But for me occasional use would be so helpful... I don't think there afe any other meds i could take.

Thank you.. Problem is it seems to run high with the infection.
I think the only way ican manage diet wise is to go virtually no carb at times like this.. Can be very challenging.
