Hi guys I'm new to all this, at new year I was diagnosed with type 2 diabeties when I went in and asked to be tested after showing signs, the results came back and my hbc1 was 8.2 The doc gave me metformin to start and the next hbc1 went to 11.3, I was then started on gliclazide 80mg twice a day as well as the 3 metformin a day.
On my next hbc1 my bloods were still 11.3 and I have continued to show signs and lost over 3 stone in weight, yesterday they decided it might be type 1 now and have started me on insulin.
Long story short my only worry is that could having hight blood sugar of 11.3 for 4 months continuously have already caused internal damage :(

Hi Hun I know where you are coming from I was told I was type 2 told I reversed it and then 10 months no meds and a bad dka later I'm type 1 on insulin :s it does suck but I promise it does get better x

Sorry you're going through such a rough time!
As far as I'm aware it takes a very long time of abuse to cause complications from diabetes. I don't think 4 months would have caused any damage.

Cheers guys I kinda hoped that but still worry lol, like I said I only went on insulin yesterday at dinner time so it's all new to me think there gunna put dose up today cause last bm test was 18.2

A few months being high should be fine. Most diabetics were probably high for quite a while prior to diagnosis. Just wondered, did they just guess you were T1 or did they carry out any tests to confirm it ? Insulin isn't so bad once you sort your doses out. Good luck :-)

He did do a blood test yesterday before I left to confirm but he said that the amount of weight I had lost and the fact on both meds my weight still came off and hbc1 went up not down shows its type 1 so they started me straight on insulin yesterday x if I'm honest I'm fine with insulin doesn't worry me in the slightest the only thing I do worry about is when they sort out my bloody sand it becomes normal then I'll worry about hypo it's one of my worse feels becoming unconscious and no one around or not knowing what to do when I'm alone at home with my two small children :(

You 'll be fine and hopefully your hypo awareness will kick in and you will notice the signs if you feel you may be getting too low. Going unconscious is very rare. Ask your doc/nurse about attending a course called DAFNE. This is a big help initially and gives you the tools to adjust insulin doses yourself.
