Hi All.
I've been MIA for a while as I joined before I was first diagnosed last June and it's been a fight with the GP and others since. But I now find myself having no idea where to turn. Sorry it's a long one.
I was put on Metformin and had sickness and diarrhea for 3+ weeks, I was light headed and usually fell asleep around 2pm (lunch was always at 12) if I didn't fall asleep I would just crash and be spaced out. The GP finally listened and switched me to slow release Metformin. Again the same stomach issues this time with painful cramps and still spacey. 3 weeks later and I come off them. I have a 2 week break to see if there is any gastro issue and to give myself and my body a break. I was fine, so went onto Empagliflozin, I was fine for a month but the following three months I had thrush reoccurring. Come off those and get put on Saxagliptin, first week I was angry like I've never been before, second week it called down but by the third week I was sad and crying over nothing. These ended with suicidal thoughts that I would have acted on given the chance. This terrified me and I've come off them and reported it to the yellow card scheme. When I told the Dr they completely dismissed me and said that was not a side effect of Saxagliptin. They said I could only have Gliclazide which would increase my weight and cause hypos or insulin. They were the words his receptionist said so I refused both, I have three young children that are dependent on me so I can't risk a med giving me Hypos. I had to demand an appointment to see a GP as the receptionist said I didn't need to see anyone I just needed to tell her if I wanted Gliclazide or insulin and the GP would do the script
I then saw a junior Dr who had no confidence in what they were saying and seemed to ask me more questions about what treatment I should have then gave answers. I ended up on Dapagliflozin, again I'm getting thrush reoccurring. Again my GP said my only choices are Gliclazide or Insulin.
I have an appointment with a different GP as I don't wish that GP to carry on with my treatment. Controlling with my diet alone is not an option, I need medication to help me for now.
Has anyone been through similar or know what other options I have or where I can do some research please?
