Hi, I have only been diagnosed for a week , been doing ok so far . I work a physical job , I start with breakfast at 6 am with medication. By 10 am I start to feel low and tired. I drink over a litre of water , what kind of snacks or foods would anyone recommend at this low time . I can't et fruit as I really don't like it :/

Hi and welcome. Try to avoid foods with carbs in or keep them low. Cheese and nuts are good or perhaps a natural yogurt. If you have access to a café then eggs and bacon are fine.

Thank you , that's really helpful as i could take cheese with me

Your not just limited to fruit how about a hand full of nuts and seeds or pork scratchings. I also eat celery a tomato or a carrot and a slice of cheese?.

Yes can definitely give that a try too, eating plenty of fresh veg and keeping to low carbs and protein

Hi I'm Jackie. New here, I've been diagnosed type 2 for about 2months now. I'm finding it overwhelming and confusing. I do go to the classes which help some. I'm on Metformin SR one a day. It seems straight forward what I need to do, but actually doing it is another matter. I also have other problems which are making it a bit more difficult too. So at the moment I'm not sure if I'm coming or going or if any of this makes sense. Actually feel a bit scared. Is that normal. Sorry for rambling.

It can be overwhelming , but treat it as a manageable condition , what do you do diet and exercise wise ?

Hi Jackie and jojorid, welcome.

Read around about what others do and ask any questions. It is manageable with a bit of discipline - for most it boils down to significant reduction in carbohydrates because they turn quickly to sugar in the system.

Do you have test meters? Absolutely essential to check the impact of different foods, but T2s normally have to buy their own.

Jackie do your other conditions influence what you can and can't eat?

I work with diabetes and have a good understanding of diet with it due to this . My surgery is also very good and I was asked if I wanted to record my own blood to which I'm doing and issued me with caresens kit , also filled out a medical exempt card form for me and booked a course and eye screening appointment .

Hi it is scary and the info you are given is confusing. But when I joined this site I searched loads of topics. What's the perfect breakfast etc. The answers are on here somewhere and the members are great. Good luck.

Hello Jojorid and welcome to the forum. As you see you get plenty of answers to your questions, so if there's anything you want to know, just ask.
