Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

5.8 at 4:30 am.

I hit the PBS Safety Net yesterday at the pharmacy I go to, I now get free medications and testing strips for the rest of the year.

Hello Tipetoo, great news. I think all diabetics should get free medication and testing strips for as long as the need them. It is the least the government could do for them.

My fasting bg levels are currently between 4.3 to 5.5

Im just wondering what would happen if I don't take my Metformin?

In my opinion this is something you probably don't need. When I took the plunge and removed this the outcomes were freedom from having to remember to take, relief that my blood sugars improved (I was on the right trajectory so Metformin was not required), and in my circumstances improvements in kidney function, as this was a contra-indication for me.

Quite a few are happy to keep using this drug, due to potential other health benefits. I am for drugs as a last resort just as a principle, but would not turn them down if I needed them.

I get subsidised Freedom Lite and Performa strips for $1.30 per 100 so it is not a great saving by getting them for free, but my medication mounts up at $6.40 per item at PBS subsidised prices. I am pleased that I do not have to pay full price for them though.

Thank you for this.

Im going to send a private message...

Since I came off the metformin my figures increased by 0.5 on average I was told by the doctor that would happen but everyone is different discussion with your doctor if you’re thinking about it would be the place to start, if it doesn’t work you can always go on it again

Thank you

Move to Scotland you get free prescriptions for all medications but not on strips etc unless your type 1
