Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Morning troops

6.5 fasting. Blood ketones 0.6. B's high don't know why. Very little sleep. Was working in London 7/7 all those years ago. The silence in the aftermath was deafening.
It was really strange. I remember counting the children out who I worked with and writing down who had taken them home. Seeing all the parents safe and remembering those we lost. At least the GB girls were great that night. Mixed emotions today:(:)

7.9 this morning. Don't know what happened there.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.

It was, actually :)

Hi @phil1966 how were the 200g carbs delivered, that really is an impressive amount and good to see it had little effect on amBG

Steadily through the day - Oatibix Flakes for breakfast, a Cheese and Onion sandwich at lunch, Homemade scone (with stevia instead of sugar) and a banana for snacks and meatballs with homemade sauce, green beans and sweet potato chips for dinner. Peak blood glucose was 6.5 during the day. I really seem to cope much better with carbs since I've lost so much weight and (more importantly I think), a lot of fat around my waist: I've now got a 32" waist for the first time since my teens and I'm sure losing all that visceral fat has helped massively for me

Hello @Baruney & @loulou99782,

I still remember the feelings of shock & anger at the senseless loss of life as it unfolded on the TV screen. Truly dreadful. I hope the family, friends & people involved one way or another with this trauma are able to find peace. X

Thanks Alisonjane yeah we are all OK it's just 7/7 we don't like, then my birthday in two days time cheers everyone up :)

5.9 I'm getting concerned that for me it's going higher again. My GP's told me I only need to do 4 spot checks a week as I have good control but I will lose it if I don't check. Saw podiatrist last week (first visit) who said the only way to get improvement with neuropathy in one of my feet it to keep very tight control of BS. She was impressed with what I was achieving but agreed I probably need even tighter control. GP seems to think 6's is OK for fasting so I'm fussing. I'm trying to keep mine as normal as possible which I think is between 3.5 and 5.5 fasting and for neuropathy improvements to be under 7 at all times. So today 5.9 on waking - 5.6 before breakfast and 7.2 one hour after. I'm not concerned about a rise of 1.6 but want to keep it under 7 so only way is to try to keep my fasting readings very low. Any comments?

I agree, its the best solution , keep bs as low as poss' and neuropathy will reverse,i found that for me , 10 % carbs,20% protein, 80% fats is working for me,plus i portion control , so i do not exceed 900 cals a day, ( i'm still trying to lose weight.

Thank Clive,
Good to hear you reversed your neutopathy. Mine has improved a lot as soon as I started getting my blood sugars down but still not right. I am now trying to maintain weight (I'm down to just under 9 stone) rather than lose any more so this may be my problem. It's finding more food to eat that wont put up my blood sugars. I still keep an accurate record of what I'm eating. Your fasting readings seem to be excellent. How long did it take to reverse your neuropathy?

Hi @Hiitsme,

I eat moderate carbs...usually around 100g or slightly less every day. Mainly through fruit, no added sugar yoghurts, rye or wholemeal bread. I keep good control of my blood glucose via portion size. I actually eat anything I want, obviously within reason, but I test new foods & ascertain how much I'm able to eat without spiking. I don't lchf, though I know many forum members do very successfully. I've found I'm able to eat a greater variety of foods since losing quite a bit of weight. But as I say, it's all about an overall healthy diet via portion size. I actually follow the British Heart Foundation diet now. It works for me, & I'm continuing to lose weight. So, perhaps the way to go for you to regain tighter control of your BG is to cut down the portion size of the carby foods you eat. When I was first diagnosed, I followed a lchf diet to stabilise my very high blood glucose levels. It was amazing to see how quickly I regained control & brought my high readings down. However, I personally found it difficult to carry on with lchf, but it certainly allowed me the freedom to eat as I want today. Whichever way you choose to try, I wish you luck with your goal. Good health & best wishes.

Hiitsme - I also have neuropathy problems and found some very interesting stuff in another thread on this forum entitled "help in dealing with Neuropathy"

Worth a few minutes of your time to take a look I think...

Fascinated by this....brilliant results. Very interesting theory too that makes sense ( re the visceral fat ) I can only hope for similar results one day. Are you taking in more carbs on a regular basis now?

Thanks Alison,
I think we are trying a similar approach. My carbs tend to be between 50g and 90g but as I've been told to stabilize my weight now I will have to look at increasing portion size and/or adding new foods. I can eat 50g of potatoes or 30g of pasta so small quantities of those are OK. I've started to try some fruits and will look at yoghurt. Just need to test each food or increase in portion size. Thanks.
