Morning lovely folk! 5.8 today.........................after a day of going no higher than 6.7 after a carvey lunch and 5's rest of day

5.5

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

6.7 at 7:03am.

Looks like my carb blow out was a bit silly after all. I haven't managed to bring my level down at all since Sat night even after a 1 mile walk which usually does the trick. Clearly white rice is a killer for me. I shall have to rethink my off plan treat. Still having the shredded roast duck and roast pork though :)

Oh well live and learn.

A huge hike up to 9.1 for me this morning. Very worrying. Could it have been 2 glasses of Pimms before lunch even though I'd been 6.7 and 6.8 two hours after each meal? Bedtime was 7.9

5.8 after very poor night. Cat got upstairs and kept me awake in early hours.

Did you eat or drink anything between evening meal and bedtime? Something must have caused the bedtime high level, which in turn would make your fasting level higher.

No @Bluetit1802 I rarely eat after my evening meal, just a cup of coffee with a dash of cream around 8pm and a large glass of lemon and hot water at bedtime.

3.8 for me this morning, which is in range, for me.

It's been a funny old few days, with 36 hours higher than my norms, although, to be fair, still in the non-diabetic ranges. Yesterday started at a comforting 4.2, then off out to watch F1 with friends. It's all part watching sport, and part an excuse for a big boys' breakfast. Yesterday's fare was bacon, cheesy omelet, rosti and toast, which British tea. (We are slowly but surely educating these 'mercans.). For the record, I didn't bother with the toast, and had half the rosti.

Because of the odd readings over Friday/Saturday, I did a breakfast postprandial reading. 3.1. Retested, and it was lower, so I'll stick with the 3.1, thanks! I felt fine, but knew I was going to be low when I tested. I just felt it. I "treated" that with my usual milkier drink, a few nuts, and a decent ignoring. I didn't bother testing around my usual lunch, but back to 3.2 before dinner, and 4.1 after. Trust me, I ate a humongous steak over dinner, along with home made coleslaw, with apple and root veg.

Than, this morning, 3.8.

So, we'll be calling the day of elevated levels "one of those things", and moving on. I don't mind plenty 3s, but the very low 3s may want a bit of attention if they feature tooooo much, postprandially.

Hey ho. Onward and staying level, I hope. :D

Went to bed at 6.8 and woke up this morning at 6.8. :)

We live and learn! ;) Bananas are one of the worst things to eat. They are instant sugar, which is why you see tennis players eating them between games. Try some cheese if you are hungry before bed, although I find a glass of water does the trick.

Thank you Bluetit, I love cheese so they'll be no problem having a wee bit of that, interesting about the water too. :)

Gordon......just been told by a friend at work Jamie Oliver did a curry with CAULIFLOWER replacing rice!! I've googled it and need to try it asap, looks good and perfect for low carb!! Fresh cauli whizzed food processor or grated, but of water and microwaved.........looks just like rice!!

It's ok but it's not rice :(

It nice with cheese and cream in it - but I agree it is certainly not rice.

@AndBreathe - your numbers are amazing. Well done to you. Is this just with diet control or do you have a secret ingredient? I know you say no meds, but ... :)

Diet and exercise only. Absolutely no medication. No supplements. No special herbs. No tonics.

That said, I am currently in a very happy, stress-free place in my life, which undoubtedly helps. We live in a tropical climate. I swim in the Caribbean every day. We ride our bikes, sail, and generally enjoy ourselves. I'm going to be interested to see how things evolve when I'm back in UK in the autumn, for a few months. I have to do some business whilst back, and that'll involve stress, no doubt.

Generally, though, I am incredibly stubborn, which, make no mistake can be as destructive as it can be positive. My OH tells me he has never seen me so determined as I have been in dealing with this issue, and trust me, he's known me through some difficult times. I was diagnosed 3 weeks before coming on this big trip, and just decided to take it by the throat and give it a decent old shake.

To be honest, whilst I have put in the hard yards, I have to have been very lucky to have caught this at a time when I could make a positive impact. When I see the effort some people make, I'm humbled.

Whilst my numbers are great, and my averages have shaved a little more since my last HbA1c, at the beginning of May, I must be having some higher numbers that I'm not seeing, or how could my A1c be 5.3%? I'll stick with it, though. Life could be so much worse than I have it.

Did you retest Diana? Could just be an outlier reading, or even a spot of contamination on your finger (not that I'm casting aspersions on your digital hygiene!).

5.5 this morning, but that was at 4 am before going to the airport.
