Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Rod, I have to say that I found one of the pots of that batch worse than the others so it may be a bit of that. I started my new batch tonight and did some comparisons and the difference varied between .2 and .6 ( I also tested against a pot of ten that came with second meter and they varied by 0 and .3 and matched the new batch so I not really any the wiser other than on average the old batch were a bit high!) I think that part of your problem might be that you have a demanding and varied work routine and then have just had a holiday, so you aren't always testing like for like if that makes sense. Stress puts mine up ( I suffer badly from panic attacks particularly nocturnal ones) so my fasting levels are usually higher than any other resding. Try not to stress about it. You are having an Hb a1c soon so that will paint its own picture and you can see then what if anything needs tweaking.

Thanks for that CE - I wouldn't say I'm stressing about it, I can think of a number of reasons why this is happening, I guess it's the control geek in me that's getting irritated! One thing, I know it's not the food despite the extra eating out on holiday - today for example has been bacon egg mushrooms and tomato for breakfast, with one cup of tea and an Americano out later; feta salad for lunch, another tea and OK a small homemade roll which I should have passed on (but it was good!); and 95% beef burger with ratatouille, berries and cream and some red wine for dinner, so less than 50g carbs there.

I've got about 5 strips of this tub left, so I'll open the next (last) tomorrow and leave a few for comparison tests when I get the new batch, hopefully waiting at home for me on Friday.

I can understand your irritation. Hopefully the new batch will show a downward shift. I've confused myself by comparing the three lots of strips! Tbh given that any batch can read high, low or whatever and can vary between pots in a batch, the best we can do is test to keep below 7.8 post prandially and get regular.HbA1c tests. I'm thinking of asking for a mid term one as not due again till January but I feel my Metformin need adjusting as I frequently feel low.

Rod - remember, we're trend spotting so don't sweat the figures - just be good with good and exercise and ****** the strips xxxxx

5.4 going to bed, 5.6 out of bed, the 5.4 was 2 hours after a pear so happy with that.
Only 3 and a half months into my journey, 3 month reading at diagnosis was 80 which I believe is 9.0 on meter,
Should I be looking for lower already? Not concerned just asking.

My lowest reading was the other morning (4.8) after I had gone to bed on 6.8 and reached a level of 10 2 hours after eating 2 tortilla wraps:confused:

8.2 this am and watched what i ate yesterday even had oats for supper yakkk

5.8 at bedtime, then this morning I did two with the old tub (5.7 and 6.1), and two with the new tub - but same batch (6.5 and 6.6). So that's about 6.2 between them.

Do you normally have supper, or was that an attempt to manage a morning rise?

If it was the latter, personally, I would have had something more fat based, which wouldn't boost your bloods much, if at all, but would distract your system longer when dealing with it.

I have to say, I'm so glad I decided to ditch the apparently errant batch. It introduced a variable I wasn't willing to tolerate for the length of time it would have taken to be rid of them - or I'd have been testing multiply pretty much constantly.

For £5, is it worth prolonging this uncertainty? You could always keep the last pot as an emergency supply.

It was my go-to 4.1 this morning. For some reason I feel quite tired this morning. I can't think why, as I slept pretty well last night. I'm guessing it's just one of those days.

I have a couple of business meetings today and tomorrow, so time to dress a bit more formally. And, I need my hair cut!! I find it's absolutely fine, then one day, it's just awful. So, tomorrow is haircut day. I love having that done. But, for today, I must read my memo to myself, and carefully check my shoes before leaving home!!

Play nicely boys and girls.

5.3 this morning after 5.2 at bedtime- was 4.6 pre dinner and 4.8 2 hours post also! (Gorgeous smoked haddock and green beans!! )

5.0 this morning after 5.4 going to bed.
But that was only two hours after eating, (late food).

Well done John, but your diagnosis HbA1c of 80 was 12.5mmol/l as per a meter (not 9 as you suggest), so a massive improvement. Have a look at the HbA1c converter http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html

I agree with AndBreathe, I would ditch those tubs for your own peace of mind if nothing else. We have the same sort of hols as you - rented cottage in different parts of the UK. They have a stress of their own for us. Strange place, driving on strange roads, deciding where are we going, trying to please both of us, no phone signals, and so on. Nice sort of stress, but none the less it can raise the adrenalin. Also, you must have your imminent trip to Australia in the back of your mind. Relax, enjoy the rest of your holiday, and perhaps put your meter away for a few days! You know you are eating properly. The rest is out of your control.
