9.8 another dawn thingy!!!! losing the will

5.3 this morning, went to bed on 5.4 - never left the 5's yesterday, 4.9 before dinner and 5.1 2hours after!

I didn't do any post prandial tests yesterday (sore fingers and no new foods)

Fasting 5.3
before lunch 5.5
before tea 4.9
bedtime 5.3
this morning 5.2

5.9, which is low for me, following a 6.4 on Sunday and my lowest ever 4.9 on Saturday!

It is interesting that my doctor is completely disinterested in morning readings, only looks at the HB1AC test..

Morning readings can be a lottery. There are so many variables, such as disturbed nights, stress, dawn phenomenon, when you last ate and what you ate, even if it was 12 hours earlier. Many doctors don't like us testing at all. The HbA1c test is their be all and end all I'm afraid.

Im sure those evil fairies live under my bed alliebee ;-(

Hi Bluetit.

I did discuss this with my doctor, and ask for his justification. He said that he concentrated on HB1AC levels as it had been proved that keeping them below 6.5 was the best way to avoid complications. I suppose it is a moot point anyway, people with high morning readings are very likely to have high HB1ac results too.

Interestingly, the blood sugar 101 website stated somewhere that there was evidence that post prandial readings were more important than morning ones.

An HbA1c of 6.5% actually equates to 7.8mmol/l (which is the measurement unit used on meters), and is bang on the minimum level at which we are diagnosed diabetic. We are advised by many research documents to keep UNDER 7.8mmol/l at all times, including post prandial. An HbA1c of 6.5% (7.8mmol/l) would indicate that we are often over 7.8mmol/l. Personally I never want to see a 7.8mmol/l again, but I expect I will at some point.

Post prandial readings are important because they are likely to be the highest readings we get, although some members on this thread see higher morning ones.

4.4 for me this morning, which was a bit of a surprise as I was in the 3s all day yesterday. I did have a ginagerous dinner last night. It wasn't particularly carby, but did have quite a lot of protein and fat, so I perhaps had one of those slow burn episodes. No matter. It's still in my range.

This morning, I was rather surprised to receive the results of the retinopathy screening I underwent last Wednesday. I'm pleased to say, all is clear, so that's another box ticked. Just my tootsies to be done next Monday then I think I will have completed most of my first years'checks. Well, no education sessions, but I'm not incredibly fussed by that.

6.6 :banghead: This isn't funny any more ...

Are you testing at bedtime Rod? What are your other day time readings like? Is it just the fasting one or is it all of them?

I haven't been testing at bedtime or routinely through the day but my pre-dinners are also higher at around 6.1 lately. +2 readings are OK though, between 0.5 and 1 higher.

Didn't really want to "like" your post. But ... Just to say I'm sorry it's a problem for you at the moment. Could it be anything to do with your holiday sleeping hours?

Thanks Peacetrain, I think that's something to do with it. I don't want to look for excuses, but the latest tub of strips (same batch) seems even worse. Other factors could include: holiday 'stress' (trying to do too much?), irregular meals, less control about what's in food when eating out, not drinking enough water, not exercising as much yadda yadda.

I've ordered some new strips and we'll see what happens.

Rod, I have to say that I found one of the pots of that batch worse than the others so it may be a bit of that. I started my new batch tonight and did some comparisons and the difference varied between .2 and .6 ( I also tested against a pot of ten that came with second meter and they varied by 0 and .3 and matched the new batch so I not really any the wiser other than on average the old batch were a bit high!) I think that part of your problem might be that you have a demanding and varied work routine and then have just had a holiday, so you aren't always testing like for like if that makes sense. Stress puts mine up ( I suffer badly from panic attacks particularly nocturnal ones) so my fasting levels are usually higher than any other resding. Try not to stress about it. You are having an Hb a1c soon so that will paint its own picture and you can see then what if anything needs tweaking.
