I gave in and had some rice and levels shot up to 6 after 1 hour and 5.7 after 2 hours
Fasting was 5.9
I tried cauli rice just shredded it and fried but it dint do the work for me. I am very fussy and I know the quality of rice after having just a spoon of it I mixed it with a lot of chicken but I guess it dint really help or work

I like normal rice better than cauliflower rice. I have heard brown and wild rice is healthier than white rice but can't remember why. Off to work now ;) see you guys later.

Glad your soul mate is home safe and sound @AndBreathe
My morning reading a little high at 6.8. Only take morning readings. Current 10 day moving average is 6.6.
Diagnosed T2 in 2005. No medication ever. Not overweight. Lost a Kg or so but unimportant. With no medication can not have a hypo. Age 78.
No treatment but first took note of Dr Bernstein . He offered a possibility that the 20% of T2's who were not overweight could be a mild form of T1.
Who knows? My average morning reading over the years is about 6.9. Looked at the Dr Atkins work. Similar to Bernstein.
Currently following the book Real Meal Revolution by Tim Noakes and 3 others. He is Professor of Exercise and Sports Science at UCT (University
of Cape Town). The book is treatise and has become a best seller here in South Africa. He is all for the original Banting diet and recommends
high fat, low carbo and moderate protein. Banting was a greatly obese man who in the 1870's was very successfully treated with such a diet.
The diet prime aim is to loose weight but has some significance for diabetics - especially as T2's are usually overweight.

We recently spent 6 weeks with our daughter in Wales. With little opportunity to provide for ourselves my morning 10 day moving average went up to
10.4. Seems that a low carbo diet is not economical in the UK. Managed to bring it back a little by eating less but still 9.5 before our return. Took
a month to get back to an average of 7. Ok now. I think that a major high period damages the pancreas and takes time to recover. Will wait until
my 70 day moving average gets down to 7.5 before having a HbA1c.

Hope this is of some use.

What's wrong with readings of 6 after one hour and 5,7 after two. Most non diabetics would spike higher.

I do not understand what your issue is. With counts like that maybe you should have rice every day.

What levels were you actually aiming for and why?

4.8 on fasting
6.9 before breakfast.

Wish I knew what I did to get such a low reading on fasting lol

I just cannot work this out

6.4 on rising, chicken omelet for brekkie and at 1 hour it was 8.4 at 2 hours 9.1 (short walk between second and third reading) and just tested again 15 minutes later and it's dropped from 9.1 to 7.9. What's up with that?

Appreciate any opinions.

Mike
Hi Mike,

There are two things that spring to mind, based on the advice I have seen other offer. - depending on how long you you weight after your fasting morning test to eat breakfast could mean you are experiencing a liver dump. Alternatively, I have heard that for some people, exercise makes the BS rise but that it drops pretty quickly shortly after the exercise stops. I guess they are two things you could play with... to see if either applies to you.

Hi Kerry :)

Appreciate the advice. Pre dinner I was 6.1. 2 hours later (just now and that was after steak / zucchini / mushroom / butter for dinner) I was at 4.2 which is my best ever reading !!

But that was after some 4000 steps along / down the driveway. I might have worked this out and I hope so :)

Thanks for your concern.

Hi Pavlos

Well its not not high and well within NICE guidelines but being diabetic I am always scared to see a 6 on the meter, funny enough my a1c was 7.5 as you and bluetit helped me with that and I never see that on the meter ever

I just want the a1c to be below the diabetic range next time and sometime even my wife says you are just thinking too much about the levels all the time and I should relax a bit but I am too hard on myself always:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

All the best for your A1c and lipids, hope they are good :)

Regards

5.2 this morning it's been the same for three days in a row :-)

Some Advice Please:

14 days ago I decided to reduce my medication from 80 to 40 mg daily.

I walked briskly for just over an hour late evening after main meal.

My eating has been the same possibly a bit more variety.

My readings during the day has been less than 5.5 and +2hrs has been less than 6.5

My fasting average over this period has been 5.24

Overall I'm pleased with the experiment.
The only medication I'm on is Gliclazide.

The experiment was done because I'm concerned about the effects of this medication on me Pancras in the long term.

My understanding is that:
Gliclazide encourages a possibly faulty Pancras to work even harder to produce more insulin, and that it helps with insulin resistance.

Metformin makes the body's cells more sensitive to insulin. It also decreases the amount of sugar naturally produced in the liver.

My doctors reason for prescribing Gliclazide was that I did not need to loose any weight and this would not suppress my appetite whereas Metformin would.

Gliclazide is prescribed for the treatment of type 2:
When eating healthy foods, weight loss, and exercise do not keep the blood sugar level within a target range.
And for people who cannot make enough insulin or who have become resistant to the insulin their body makes.

My Liver, Kidney, Blood pressure and cholesterol are all ok. My first HbA1c was 64.

My first prescription was Gliclazide 160 mg daily which since the end of July I have been able to reduce to 40 mg and at the same time kept my BG in check.

Forgive my ramblings......
I do not think all the options was explored before starting me on Gliclazide are my concerns unfounded? ??.

Thanks for your wishes Bretts

I tend to agree with your wife. Sometimes we have to relax a bit and say that if a level is good enough for non diabetics it should be good enough for us.

Everything I have read so far suggest that as long as you can stay below 7,8 at one hour post prandial and 6,7 at two hours, then the risk of damage from diabetes is minimized. You will note that these target levels are lower than NICE guidelines, as is my fasting glucose target ceiling of 6.

Took a month's rest from testing but started up again last Friday. Fasting levels regularly high 4s so looks like my levels have taken a little drop. I think the effects of weight loss are kicking in. I've also had a few readings in the 3s. Not really happy about that but I always have a few raisins to hand so no problem.

Peacetrain – I also found my levels would move in notches as I progressed in my journey.

I’m interested in your reaction to your 3s. If you haven’t tested for a while, you were probably experiencing them without realising, and without taking any “corrective” action? If that’s the case, why do you feel compelled to “correct” with raisins?

Those 3s are possibly all part of pulling your scores down. If you think about the early days and carb cravings, where our bodies are trying to “protect” us from lower numbers, when they are alien to us.

Provided you feel fine when you see a 3 (I know the first few times it’s a bit of a “Whoooooaaaaa” moment), then just carry on as before and see what happens. For me, I just get to the next meal fine.

Of course, we are all different and I might have grasped the wrong end of the stick.

Mine was 12.5 before bed 8.0 on waking, had egg and bacon for breakfast 90 mins after down to 6.4

Well, I seem to be back into my 3.5-4.5 range now I am getting up a bit later. I did have a surprising 4.8 on Saturday for no reason I could fathom. It was correct as I did re-test, so I just have to shrug my shoulders and move on. I do appreciate for many 4.8 is dreamland, but it’s just a bit higher than my usuals.

So, this morning was 4.1. We had a lovely lunch out yesterday with family, which was lovely and relaxed, but an absolute carb-fest for most around the table. I was quite surprised by my reaction to it all, but I wasn’t in the least tempted by too much of anything. I did look a bit longingly at some ice-cream, apparently, but not longingly enough to go for it.

So, it’s a new week, with new tasks to achieve. Play nicely boys and girls.

5.2 pre breakfast, so normal for me, as mentioned in an earlier post only ever go into the 4's if alcohol was involved the night before. 6.9 post breakfast. In a rut but if monitor is to be believed am happy enough with readings.
