Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

No not at all. My point was that we each have our own range and have to work that for ourselves. I suffer from panic disorder and know at under 4.6 the adrenalin kicks in and sets that off so running lower isn't best thing for me. I guess I was trying to say that there comes a point at which we have to go with what nature has thrown our way so shouldn't compare ourselves negatively to others. Those numbers are what you've achieved by your efforts so good on you. I might do exactly the same and never get that low but that doesn't mean I'm a failure. I think we all need to work at self love.

I don't particularly like too low a number, so I'm with you on this.
Below 4.5 or so I used to feel rough, (not quite so much now, but I reckon I've had a few more and got used to them), but even so I'm happier around the 5's.
The other thing to consider when you're checking BG is to consider the range.
My HbA1c is 5.3, so depending on what your's is, you should always consider the range.
If my lows are around 4.5 to 5, I know I'n not seeing a great spread if the average is on the HbA1c is 5.3.
If I do take my tests down a notch, I'd like to see my HbA1c track it.

But that's me though, and things do change how you feel with time.
(I've just been out all day, got home and tested 4.3, a few months ago I would have been on the floor, now I feel ok. But my next HbA1c is going to be the decider for me, on what action I need to take)

Slightly confused.

Is your Hba1c 5,3% ( equivalent to average glucose of 5,9mmol) or equivalent to an average glucose of 5,3 mmol ( hba1c of 5,0%)?

Either way I think I know what you mean about range being important.

I too feel more comfortable being around 5,0 rather than much lower.

Pavlos

PS Just the number cruncher in me coming out:-) can't help myself!

HbA1c is a steady 5.3%.
So if that equates to an average of 5.9, and my lows are 5, it means my highs should be 6.8.
(obviously that is a very flawed arguement, as it doesn't allow for duration, but even so, if we did, lower lows mean higher, or longer highs),
So I like to look at all my readings, as a way to establish what my short and long term control is.

Thank you for all the encouragement.

Two months ago I was always in the 16's (T2) and have been a diabetic for 2 years and in total denial of it.

On the 1st October I decided to turn my whole life around. I found my DN wasn't that much help just told me to go away and lose weight.
I then came across this site and read and read and read. Decided most people on here were doing the LCHF plan so I then decided to buy the carbs & Cals book and then when I became a little bit more confident with what I could and couldn't eat i installed the app on my mobile, since that day I haven't looked back.

Originally two years ago my BS was 29. The DN then put me on metformin 4 x500 and it came down to 19. I managed to stabilise it at 16.
I didn't have a clue what to do or how to reduce it until I came on here.

2 months on I've managed to control it to in the 6's with the occasional 4.8's. I'm over the moon and will be going back at the end of December for my three monthly blood checks.
Plus I've lost 2 stone 7lb in that short time too.

I walk 30 mins in the morning before I get myself ready for work and again in the evening. In the evening I park up and before I go in doors I walk another 30 mins.
I know for a fact if I go in doors I won't come out again.

I can't tell you how happy I am now. I know this is a life changing situation just wished I found out all I know now 2 years ago!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the feed back you guys give and all the knowledge you share.

Big thank you. X
Well done @Foxie and thank you for sharing. FANTASTIC. What an inspiration.!

Well done... You should feel so proud of yourself as you did all the hardwork:)

Hi @AndBreathe, I know from time to time I will slip, but on the whole I am so committed....that's down to people like you - real people - with real stories. So thank you :)
Agree wholeheartedly with all you've said, not just the quoted bit but with regards to that we all "slip" at some time. I'm sure there's not a single "success story" who hasn't. ;)

Hi guys & gals

YESTERDAY
Fasting 5.3
post usual brekky 6.4
pre lunch 5.7
post lunch forgot
Pre tea 6.2
post 7.8

TODAY
fasting 4.7 - and here's my admission - dog got me up twice last night cos she's got the trots - each time I ate half a Snicker bar (felt like I was starving) maybe this adds fuel to the Dawn Phenomenon/liver dump theory?
Post regular brekky 5.9 (same rise of 1.2 as yesterday so maybe in a few days I won't test post brekky)
Pre lunch 6.1 (same as last nights tea)
post lunch 5.7 (strange)
Pre snack 5.00 (one of those cold pressed fruit bars of 35ish gs of carbs - but I'd just read on a health food website that a similar one was low GI - so tested the ones lurking in my cupboard)
post snack 5.8 (about hour and quarter later)
pre tea 5.1 (two and half hours post snack) 18:45
Now for the really strange part of the day
post tea 4.6 (large lightly battered cod, chips and mushy peas (treat night) 21:02
BUT now 22:09 (out of curiosity re delayed bs rises) 6.3

Time to make my bedtime cocoa, shower and to bid you all good night, sweet dreams and a low fasting BS in the morning :joyful:

@Sable_Jan Looks like one of your post tea readings was a rogue one and I suggest it is the 4.6. It is unlikely you would drop from 5.1 to 4.6 after fish chips and mushy peas! I bet it goes even higher ....... :(

Night night and sweet dreams.

Thank you for all the encouragement.

Well done you. It is great how much this place offers everyone - it should come from our surgeries and other HCPs but at least it exists somewhere!

Relieved to see 93mg/dl ( 5,16 mmol) this morning, after going to bed at 120mg/dl (6,66 mmol) last night after a late dinner, which probably included a few too many carbs

Have a great day

Hi Mike,
Going to bed soon and not been about all day, 'your night'. Thanks for the reply.

It's quite the reverse for me, before being diagnosed it was usually a cereal or Toast breakfast, some sweet & also some savory. I was on a Low Fat Diet. So now have gone LC sort of HF where in the past I looked forward to Egg & Bacon, now when I am sort of forced on occasions to have it, I struggle.
Cannot get used to the high fat. Can eat fish anytime. Sardines on one slice of wholemeal for breakfast, and also had a small portion of Haddock & poached egg. That I find OK. I struggle with the berries & Yogurt.

Some of it is in my mind the fact I cannot have what I fancy, its very frustrating, and so is the number counting.

My number for the mornings are generally low at 5.1, but I had some post meal spikes of up to 11.3 which is frightening.

Good luck with your numbers.
Neil

Thanks Neil

Been off the air with a busted PC ... and that factored into some bad figure at one hour post brekkie yesterday. Appreciate the input mate :)

Question guys and gals :)

What is a good / acceptable level to observe? That is, what is the trigger point when the readings are too high if they happen to be regular and consistent/. I've never gone over 9 (well, once before i dumped / severely reduced the alcohol) but I seem stuck in the 6s (sometime 7s and they do drop gradually) and want some opinions on that.

Thanks

mike :)

My morning walks have resulted in increased glucose levels in the last two days where I would normally expect to see drops.

Normally as long as I am above 5,0 mmol on waking up, going on my walks without having anything to eat results in a drop in my sugar levels.

In the last two days my fasting levels before the walk were 5,5 and 5,1 respectively and after the walk 6,0 and 6,1 respectively - liver damps, where I would normally not expect them.

The only difference I can think of is the my experimenting with a reduced Metformin dose of 1000mg daily rather than my normal 1700mg.

A sample of two is probably too small to draw any reliable conclusion though. I will stick with the lower dose and see how I get on.

Pavlos
