Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

6 this morning. I'm not surprised as I had a night of worst anxiety I've had for ages. Still feel shocking now. I did wonder if if had a hypo during night but tested at 4.45 and I was 6.2. I guess I may have missed it and have been on way up again by the time I woke up properly enough to test.

Poor you. I can't imagine how awful it must be. I hope you are feeling much better now.

Last night's preprandial read 5.0, then had pan-fried trout fillet and some sprouts followed by my usual berries & cream, at + 2 hours I read 7.1, 8.4 (!), 6.8 and 6.8. I'm concluding that maybe the 5.0 was a lowish outlier, but not far out, because I would not normally get a spike of around 2 with a meal like that. I ignored the 8.4 as a wild outlier on the meter (? 7.0 + 20%) and averaged the other three to get 6.9.

At bedtime I was 5.5, which was also my reading this morning.

5.1 at bedtime
5.8 this morning :banghead:
6.1 at 1hr after Greek yogurt and strawberries with flax and a cuppa.

I have a very strange day ahead of me. I have my annual over 60's health check this afternoon, which includes a cholesterol and lipids test. They were adamant I didn't need to fast so gave me an appointment for 2-30pm. I know fasting does affect my triglycerides, whatever they say, so I have had my normal breakfast and a cuppa and will now have nothing but water until after my appointment. I won't get my lunch until about 3-30. It will be interesting to see what my levels are after a 6.5 hour fast during the day, and whether I collapse with hunger!.

I do like your logic, Rod! ;)

Yep, very annoying. I would have done the same as you.

5.3 for me today, about an hour later than usual as for once after waking around 5am I managed to doze off again till 7am alarm, although I then woke feeling a bit strange, almost shakey/wobbly??!! What was I dreaming?? Had gone to bed on spot on 5

I'm so sorry ethyl anxiety is just awful hope it all eases very soon x
Thanks - I'd had a lovely evening out with friends and it always seems to set me off being excited and happy - same hormones released I guess. X

Lol I think it's worth always keeping in mind that the meter can sometimes tell fibs - well not fibs exactly, but whilst most readings will be within 5-10% of true value, occasionally you will get a wild one. One of the benefits of regular testing is that you develop a 'nose' for what should happen, and therefore you can retest if you get something anomalous.

I have no personal experience of any drugs, but I'm wondering if you're experiencing a variation on the enzyme lag "we" can see when we increased carbs? In other words, give it a few days, at least, to give your body a chance to catch up with the new regime.
I intent to stick to the lower dose for about two weeks and reassess then.

The rest of my counts are holding up but it may be that the change in dosage has not taken hold.

The annoying thing is that I seem to feel more hungry.

I am aware that Metformin is supposed to be an appetite suppressant so psychologically I am probably feeling hungry because I am expecting to be.

Too much knowledge can sometimes work against us! :-) lol

Sorry to hear you had such a rough night. Is this anxiety about something in particular or one of those annoying can't settle down and feel worried for no reason feelings we sometimes get.

Hope your better now and able to get some rest.

@pavlosn I have 2 walks a day, nowhere near as far as your morning walk. My levels always rise after my walks and always have done. They drop about an hour later. Weird how we are all different.

Definately. Cortisol and adrenaline. Tends to hang around the body in some people for far too long. .fight or flight syndrome. Its beastly is anxiety
Both elevate glucose as the body thinks it's needed for quick burst of energy.
