Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Thanks vit90 you have helped me cause I didn't realise dried fruit had that many carbs.

It feels great to be able to pass on some of my own experience and knowledge, a lot of it acquired with the help of others here of course :)

It's a bit of a chore but I really do recommend googling <food item> carbohydrate to see how many carbs/100g in g the food you want to eat contains. Make sure the figure excludes dietary fibre - US sites tend to do a total including fibre and then break it down to fibre and sugars, with the remaining difference being starches. I good target is to restrict your carbs to 50g per day, maybe less if you want to explore the possibility of a ketogenic diet where you make your body actively burn fat for energy primarily; this is very good for weight loss as well as cutting the carbs.

Not sure of fasting today as ran out of strips, however, I wanted to share with you my recent blood results for my review.

My hba1c was 33/5.2%. Not the 4 something I was hoping for but down from last year's 37/5.5%.
Cholesterol is up from 3.9 to 4.7 (HDL 1.4, LDL 3.0 - ratio of 3.4). A little worried about this....
Tryglicerides - 0.7
Vit D - 68.0
B12 - 601
Thyroid TSH - 2.2
All other tests "normal"

Yay :D

Total/HDL should be less than 4, yours is 3.4; Trigs/HDL should be less than 1.3, yours is 0.5 so nothing to worry about there I would say. And with those ratios your LDL is likely to be mostly the bigger fluffy particles (good) rather than the small dense ones (bad).

And very well done on the HbA1c too!

Getting consistently low 6s now Diana, that's great :)

5.7 here, just been for my blood tests this morning, appointment with DN on Wednesday afternoon.

(Will I wait until then to get my results? What do you think? ... ;))

Thank you, Rod. I just needed a bit of help from the Forxiga as I didn't feel I could tighten my diet or exercise any more. A year was long enough! Hopefully I'll soon be chasing your 5's :)

I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting with baited breath for your results!

Aaarrgghh no, now I'm getting stressed and my BGs will go up with all the responsibility :***:

5.3 this morning, 6.3 post usual porridge; pre dinner 4.9 post 5.3 (which was also pre Ginger Cake) post cake 5.1........! ;)

This morning was 18 @ 06:00
Had a cup of tea and it hit 20 @08:00
Had a small bowl of muesli and it sitting at 26 @ 10:00

Scared to eat.
Hi kad toy , sorry to hear this, are you on meds for t1 or t2? And what are you eating? Perhaps we can help.

7.1 @ 00.45 this morning before going to bed and 6.4 @ 5.45 when I got up so not sure if it can be classsed as fasting. In my defence I went to a relatives last night for dinner (4 courses) and we didn't start eating until 9.45 and finished at 11.30 so I didn't think it was too bad in the circumstances particularly as I ate more carbs than usual. However my BS is now 5.2 so hopefully normal service has returned and yes, I will have less carbs than last night for tea!!

Had to go for fasting bg test today so I didn't take my bg until later so it was high 8.7, as I hadn't eaten. Down to 4.7 two hours after I managed to get my brekkie

Hi there, if you get the 'Carbs & Cals' Book, it's all simple pictures of over 1700 photo's of different foods on a plate, at a glance you can see the carbs and calories, it's really helpful & very easy to use, under a tenner on ebay.

Hello, I wonder if you might be able to help with a question I have about someone with type 2.She is a woman with a Learning disability and I know her through my work. She is prescribed Humalog twice daily, is this common? she is not carb counting and is told to take the injections morning and evening. Why would a short acting insulin be used in this way? Also is anyone else on a similar regime? I am type 1 and use Humalog in my pump but had not come across anyone with type 2 being treated this way. Thanks if you can help.Rx

I can't answer this but I've reported it so admin might move it to a new thread under "Type 2 with insulin" where it should be more visible to someone who can.

Hi Mojo37
I exercise every week, I do Karate twice a week for 1 and a half hour each time. and eat health. Even if I have a low carb it goes up silly.
Hi Kadtoy, I notice you say 'even when I low carb', if your not low carbing and regularly for all meals, you will get no consistency or reduction in your numbers. I took the liberty of looking at your profile are you on any medication?

And the point has already been made, if you can, you need to be exercising when you have these high numbers, the exercise should bring them down.

Neil
