6.5!!!

Didn't have late dessert, slept at 8.15 but woke up at 2am and couldn't sleep so had a cup of tea! Look what that did!!

I get DP most mornings but I sleep badly last night I really don't know why I went to bed under duvet. on top of, with pillows, without pillows pillows on floor, pillows under legs, pillows under feet. reading, just didnt happen and 8.4 when I decided to do levels. After 2 days on sleepers and being in the low 7's dont really want to take sleepers every night as they make me brain dead

Another 3.8 for me this morning.

Before we went overseas last autumn, we had quite a bit of re-landscaping work done outside, in order to make the garden lower maintenance; particularly when we're away. It involved shifting several tones of turf, top soil and some shrubs. We relocated a patio and put down several tones of slate paddlestones and pebbles. Over time this has settled a bit, as expected, so now I'm ordering more, to be delivered whilst the weather is still pretty decent. I'm intending the stone to be here and laid before my OH arrives back towards the end of next month, so I'll be getting some pretty intensive bingo wing and thigh therapy. It'll do me good, and I will again be reminded why we paid so much for the wheelbarrow. I'd best work up a few weights methinks. The good news will be that my calorie requirements will go through the roof for those few days!!

In this life, there's always a silver lining if we look hard enough. :)

Play nicely playmates.

Sorry you are having such problems. Not sleeping becomes a vicious circle because going to bed becomes stressful anticipating a bad night, so you have a bad night. I hope it resolves soon.

5.6 Tuesday, 5.2 yesterday and a whopping 6.8 today. Naughty dinner, too much and a sore throat at play. What do you all suck for that?

There are two reasons why your blood sugars levels may be high in the morning – the dawn phenomenon and the Somogyi effect.

Dawn phenomenon.
The dawn phenomenon is the end result of a combination of natural body changes that occur during the sleep cycle and can be explained as follows. Your body has little need for insulin between about midnight and about 3:00 a.m. (a time when your body is sleeping most soundly). Any insulin taken in the evening causes blood sugar levels to drop sharply during this time. Then, between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., your body starts churning out stored glucose (sugar) to prepare for the upcoming day as well as releases hormones that reduce the body’s sensitivity to insulin. All of these events happen as your bedtime insulin dose is also wearing off. These events, taken together, cause your body’s blood sugar levels to rise in the morning (at "dawn").

Somogyi effect.
A second cause of high blood sugar levels in the morning might be due to the Somogyi effect (named after the doctor who first wrote about it). This condition is also called "rebound hyperglycemia." Although the cascade of events and end result – high blood sugar levels in the morning – is the same as in the dawn phenomenon, the cause is more "man-made" (a result of poor diabetes management) in the Somogyi effect. There are two potential causes. In one scenario, your blood sugar may drop too low in the middle of the night and then your body releases hormones to raise the sugar levels. This could happen if you took too much insulin earlier or if you did not have enough of a bedtime snack. The other scenario is when your dose of long-acting insulin at bedtime is not enough and you wake up with a high morning blood sugar.
Very interesting but what if your not on insulin?

hi @Bluetit1802 sleepless nights have been going on for 15-20 years now all i can say is I read a lot lol but then on my day off work I take sleepers and go brain dead one nights tablets usually mean 2 better nights not full nights sleep but about 4 to 5 hours usually from 6am till maybe 11am rather than at night when I need it. Think I need a night job

7.4 for me this morning after a bad night. I too am fighting a sore throat and feverishness for the 2nd time this year. After going 15 years without getting a cold or flu I'm not a very good patient. I'm not taking anything for it, but would like to know what is safe to take and won't raise bs.

Hope you feel better soon @cold ethyl

8.2 after several glasses wine last night (girly night out). Amazed I'm still in ketosis this morning.

@alliebee Was that a sweet white, as I had a couple of glasses of red last night, and woke up at 4.5 this morning.

No was a very dry chablis. 4 glasses. Lol. Drank fizzy water after that 8 carbs I reckon...my fasting was 10 and up to 13 three weeks ago. Daytime levels are great now. Just getting fasting one down a bit

Ah, right, going well in the right direction then :)

Hope you feel better soon too. So far just the sore throat so fingers crossed here as last year I caught whooping cough and my respiratory system still isn't 100%

Great you managed the Bisto Best. We use it but it can spike me if I have too much. Great numbers Kim.

I don't have too much either Bluetit- have used it for roast meat and veg but tonight was a first doing a stew! Didn't even miss potatoes or dumplings, just enjoyed the taste alone- my tastes have really improved since dropping the carbs too! Just tested at 4.9 while getting in bed ; )

Still running a temperature, sore throat and cough but 6.8 on waking
