Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

6.2 this morning. Only woke up at 9.45 so suspect my liver is lending a tide over hand. Mr E brought me a coffee - just need to train him to fetch a cooked breakfast up next.

bluetit i didn,t have anything to eat after tea

thank you bluetit, the morning reading has come down as it was usually between 17 and 30

I think my brain is in the UK, my stomach somewhere over the Gulf and my liver still in Australia! 6.3 yesterday, and 6.9 this morning :(

Apart from the travel and jet lag, I haven't been able to do any meaningful exercise since Thursday, so that will have to get back on track.

Did you test an hour after your meal? I have a roast dinner every Sunday including carrots, peas, roast spuds and gravy. My spike is always at 1 hour due to the quick release veggies. I'm back down again at 2 hours. Just a thought.

I have a lot leftover so I can try this tonight but is it not supposed to spike anyways regardless of whether you are diabetic or not?
What sort of spike should tell me its way too much for my system i mean how many points.

6.7 at 08:-13 am.Had two rounds of wholemeal toast and now at10:52 it's 9.5

Ally, well done on all your numbers yesterday, they were excellent and we are all proud of you. You need to get your morning level down a bit now. I wonder what is causing it after a whole day of single figures? Do you have a snack in the evenings, and what do you have?

@Bluetit1802 , and @ally1 - I have a theory. I think the higher morning numbers, even after a day's lower scores, is Ally's body trying very, very hard to cling to it's "natural" level she's been running at for a while. Obviously, that's too high, but it's where Ally's body has been, and it'll maybe take a little while for her determined liver and pancreas to get used to their new way of living.

That's my theory which may be rubbish, and I'm certainly open to challenge, but that's why I keep repeating to keep going as you are. Your body will get the hang of it in time, provided you keep up the good work.

:)

You are right, everyone will spike at an hour after a carby meal with fast release foods. Non-diabetics should come back down to base fairly quickly, whilst type 2's can take a lot longer and may keep rising. 1 hour spikes don't matter too much as long as your 2 hour reading is back down to a level that is acceptable to you, but the size of the spike might matter in the long term if it happens after every meal. Personally, I like to keep my spikes below 2mmol/l (preferably lower) at all times, whether it be 1 hour, 2 hours or 2.5 hours. What I have found since my levels improved is that most of my spikes are now at 1 hour, back down to good acceptable levels by 2 hours. This hasn't always been the case.

I'm not very scientific, but this is what I understand. Others may jump in to help.

Hi Bluetit

Thanks a lot for the explanation I will try and definitely post the results tonight, now I am keen too to know what sort of spike will that be.
I try to keep it under 2 after meal but thats 2 hours after and my spike usually is the max I have seen is about 1

think I have the virus going round feeling a bit yucky

Mine usually stays somewhere between 7 and 8. It's always difficult to know what BG level is high and what is low. I came across this book " High Blood Sugar: Find The Cause and Eliminate It!" It really helps is clarifying a lot of doubts especially when you know that your blood sugar is under control BUT your doctor thinks otherwise.

Your blood sugar is only really under control when it is in the same range as non-diabetics.

You have had a hard week. Your body has had a lot to put up with, from stress to jet lag and everything in between. It is probably just starting to feel the strain and you must be very tired. It will stabilise again.

8.2 this morning but I'm ok with the trade off of numbers after a 12 hour journey by road and sea yesterday to be with my daughter on her due date, and woken during the night with a message that she has gone into labour already! How often does that happen with a first baby? :) I was expecting at least a week of chill and relaxation in the beautiful holiday cottage we've hired for two weeks on a working farm, surrounded by beautiful countryside!

Now just waiting for news and suddenly numbers don't seem very important...
Well! Now you'll have longer with your new grandchild! All the best. :-)

5.4......ok but really wanted that 4 again! Strangely enough sunday night was my best nights sleep in ages and I was wide awake at 6am, last night I was waking up often and at 7am I feel half asleep!!
