Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

5.9 this morning at 6.35. By the time I ate breakfast and tested before it I was at 9.0!! So don't feel like testing after an hour - think I have solved the big rise after breakfast issue - it is actually a big rise before breakfast!! Liver dump or dawn phenomenon - any known cures or practical solutions?

How much time passed between waking up and having breakfast?

Consider shortening this period or having a small snack such as a piece of cheese or a bit of Apple or some milk, immediately after taking your fasting count.

Maybe like several of us here find, late getting breakfast after waking can cause a temporary rise? I would definitely test as usual after eating though to see if that was the cause or if it was just a blip that we all get sometimes too? If you are anything like me, you won't be happy until it's back in line!

5.7 not surprised but not overly concerned, hopefully back to a usual routine later this week with fewer disrupted nights.

Does that feel low to you @douglas99?

@pavlosn

It feels low if I go down to the 3's, and even 4's in the day, from a higher number, I always used to be more comfortable in the 5's.
I don't feel bad waking up to 3's and 4's though.

I think it's two things happening, the first one is I think my overall BG is lowering overall, and it's continuing the trend I had over summer, so I'm getting used to lower numbers, and 'lower' lows.

Secondly, I can feel my 'liver dump' (or at least some psychological dump), as when I wake up, I go from feeling tired, to pleasantly awake, as if I have just had the switch turned on as it were.
But I usually eat breakfast fairly soon after getting up, so it's hard to tell if my BG would continue up by itself, or stay in the 3's.
Maybe an experiment for a later day.
From other experiences throughout the day, I certainly didn't notice anything bad if I didn't eat, no sudden highs, so I'm assuming I used my liver dump, and kept in the 5's and 6's, and the only thing I do notice is if I further don't eat, I do feel it then I eventually go down into the 3's. Nothing awful, just I know I feel like a snack.
I obviously do use my glucose stores, as I can exercise heavily, but I come out low, then I can eat, (carbs) and I don't rise badly, so the glucose is going back somewhere.
Sorry for the long rambling answer.

It's Monday! It's 7 o'clock! It's ... 6.3 :arghh::banghead:

I must have had some very exhilarating dreams last night. Wish I could remember them!

5.1 at bedtime at 11-30pm
6.3 at 4am bathroom visit
5.8 this morning.

Mine high all weekend and high again this morning 8.4 fasting. Time to start pestering local clinic about consultant appointment. Still got chest infection so could be that.

Watching this with interest Douglas. You are doing really well :)

Thanks for advice people it was about 50 minutes from my waking test toy before breakfast so will try eating when I get up tomorrow and see the effect - incidentally I was back to 7.7 after 2 hours of breakfast which from a 9.0 start is ok in my book!

4.6 at 1 a.m. and 4.8 on waking Now for breakfast

What the ???? 7.6 one hour later after eggs bacon and hollaindaise sauce ... which I have now discovered has (per 100ml) 9 grams of carbohydrates of which 7 are sugars. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mike
Do you buy ready made sauce cause it is quite easy to make a batch at the weekend. Just need a blender eggs oil melted butter and seasoning
Loulou :)
