Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Good morning all,
7.3 @ 10 to 8 sat on bed
8.3 @ 8.15 about to eat breakfast.
If this another liver dump, my question is, when I have my next blood test in April, will these spikes make a difference to the results of the blood test.
Have bought a meter, trying hard to change my life around.
Nurse said no to a meter, typ 2 etc
How frustrating for you... It's all about the money I suppose... You will be able to test everything you eat before and two hours after your food... it will soon level out... good luck... :)

Salted Cashews....its one of those spooky things... they don't seem to raise my BS's when I'm eating them.. but I find I am always higher the next morning... but that could be because the 2oz I'm allowed seems to turn into 4 or more ozs... like I said, I cant seem to rest when the packet is open.. because all I can hear coming from the draw is the words... eat me... eat ME...EAT ME.... its like they put a spell on me..lol
:D

Maybe try some pecan nuts, they have per 100 grams 4 grams of net carbohydrates and 9 grams of protein whereas the values for cashews are 26.7 grams of net carbohydrates and 18 grams of protein. I realise that their taste maybe be less seductive, but this maybe an advantage.
Good thinking... I heard that cashews are a bean, not a nut... maybe that adds starch... aren't we supposed to only eat 'tree nuts'?

Yes!!!! Finally, I am getting fasting readings very similar to my bedtime ones! Thank you Cool Ethyl for the tip about having a small snack just before bedtime, and to someone else (I can't remember who - sorry!) for the tip about having a snack on waking! I had 3 walnut halves last night and this morning.

Bedtime reading = 7.7
7am = 7.3
10am (2 hours after breakfast of chicken thigh, salad and Philadelphia) = 7.2

Happy bunny!!
It's so exciting, isn't it? :) It doesn't take much to make us happy, eh?

Millysue, you are asking the exact questions I wanted to ask, as I have the same problem and am also newish to testing - well, up until two days ago. My sleeping/waking figures since Saturday night and this morning are now very similar, and it's due to the tips the Forum members have been giving you, which I've picked up and actioned!

Now I need to get my numbers down from low 7s to low sixes and downwards from there! Bearing in mind 4 weeks ago they were double figures, I am well chuffed, so thank you for asking the questions and thank you to those Forum members who responded.
Well done... It's good here, isn't it? :)

You must be gnashing your teeth.... What kind of a surgery is it? It sounds disorganised... Good luck for Wednesday... :)
Susikav,

It used to be a single doctor surgery and he is a friend of mine, now it's been taken over by a group practice, they are nice people but never see the same Dr twice in the row.

Here's to tomorrow being my lucky day.

Thanks for the good luck.

Good morning from dusty Qatar! I liv off the Budaiyah highway - in Barbar... one of the older compounds with lots of lovely old trees and greenery... You would not recognise it now for sure... it's changing every day.... you need to pop over and see it.. :) You would not believe what they have done to Adliya - all the restaurants there are so good now and they've cobbled the little streets and built fountains and flower beds... :)
That sounds lovely :)

Good mornng Aylalake ,
I have been diabetic for 5 plus years, thought I was being sort of good, low fat, lots of fruit and veg, love roasted root veg. Baked spud at lunch time when I was at work, etc. etc.

Mum was tye 2, one of my sisters was type 2. My older brother IS type 2.
So it runs in the family.
I am type 2, taking 2 metformin twice a day, plus asprin and bloodpresure tablet.
Feet burn at night.
Stumble on this fab site a couple of weeks ago.
Horror!!!!! Looks like I have been doing it ALL wrong!
So I bought myself a meter ( nurse said no to testing back in January ) and I am trying the lchf thing. I am a veggie that eats some fish.

Won't to prove nurse wrong. Don't want eye problems like sister. Although eye problems also run in our family.
I am colour blind in my right eye, no one has figured that out yet.

Well done on you numbers.
Sorry its a long post people.
Not at all, it's a very interesting post Millysue... I think most of us were 'being good' for years too, and I'm sure we were really helping ourselves... I hope you can prove the nurse wrong... there are loads of lovely recipes on the low-carb sites - All Day I Dream About Food is site run by an amazing lady... As you like fish it will be easier for you to make up your meals... being veggie is difficult, I know... so much of your diet will be 'healthy' pulses and beans and stuff which you can't low-carb on.... There's a lovely thread on here with low-carb recipes people have posted - some of it from 2008! Unfortunately I lost it and can't seem to find it again... I'll have another look later, it's there somewhere... :) Good luck with it all...

That sounds lovely :)
It is - until June to August/September... then it's hot, but the garden is still lovely, with bougainvillea and jasmine everywhere... :) It's perfect at the moment, but it will get much too hot... everywhere is air-conditioned though... :) I have to come back to the UK tomorrow to sort out the builders in my house, so I will miss it...

My nurse said the same thing but I've ignored her and bought one anyway. I figure the only way to gain control is to find out what food I can eat and for that I need a meter. Having said that I had a small portion of chippy sausage and chips at lunch.sent my bs from 4.3 to 7.1 but it was worth it:joyful: All in the name of a scientific study of course:rolleyes:
Indeed Killer... right.... :D

Have you found any correlation with diet or any other lifestyle aspect? I get to 4.5 in my pre prandials...
Are you on meds? A lot of us low-carb to stay off the meds, and some of us low-carb and respond so well that we stop any meds at all, or reduce them... The lucky ones are the ones who are pre-diabetic and discover this forum before they begin to take meds... :)

I have been taking metformin on and off for years due to my insulin resistance and PCOS. At the moment I am taking 2000mg but I know from previous experiences with low carbing in the past that once I manage to bring the weight down my need for metformin is smaller, however since I am now diabetic I am not sure how will it work from now on, will have to wait until I lose enough weight and see...

Really late on parade today! !
Fasting was 5.6
Today I had my appointment with my nurse to check how I'm doing meds free, I told her my average fasting and pre/post prandial, she decided to do my bloods today instead of april- but after two attempts couldn't get a drop! Think as I'd gone straight out this morning and only had my coffee and not my usual glasses of water during the morning I wasn't flowing! Now I shall have hba1c on the 19th. She had commented "look at you" when I walked in, asked what I was limiting food wise and this time when I told her seemed to praise low carb!! I asked to pop on her scales to see what had changed since Dec 30th, as I did I heard her take a sharp intake of breath then a big laugh- 13.2lbs loss!! Then more praise....
Now I need to update my signature again, my total now 5.15stones loss!!
As for my sudden, hot, heart racing, waking in the night I have to see gp but she agrees it was never the forxiga as he thought it may be as it's happening still so its more likely hormones as we thought
All good news! You must have felt so good... :) I posted before about the amount of natural histamines in our food - if we eat too much of one type it can give panic attacks - racing heart, sweating and anxious... but it's probably your hormones.. :)

Also... the prescribed me gliclazide when I left the hospital, I took it for two weeks, but it didn't make any sense to me to take it due to the insuline resistance (I have a lot excess weight which exacerbates the IR) so I talked to the nurse and I stopped the gliclazide, my numbers went dramatically down after that. The aftermath of the gliclazide for me is that my acne came back (which means I had tons of insuline running frrely in my system and playing havoc with my testosterone levels...) ... and it takes time to clear out.
